It’s building a world in which what we now call veganism has simply become part of the ordinary moral baseline — just the world. #compassion #humanity #wildlife #foodforthought #animal by @kyleoldhafer

Domination makes nobody feel good. I’m not perfect, I’ve participated in this system of abuse. But I told myself I’ll do better because I wouldn’t want this for myself. I want to live by the golden rule, that I shouldn’t treat others in ways I would never want to be treated. #endspeciesism #animalrights #voiceforthevoiceless #emptythetanks #adoptdontshop by @kyleoldhafer

If we don’t act NOW, we will ALL see, that in an uninhabitable world, our pursuit of profit and not material well-being, will have been a laughable and miserable failure. #protectwildlife #endspeciesism #endangeredspecies #environment #ecosocialism by @kyleoldhafer

Some pictures from my recent trip in Europe, film and iphone. First slide is something I did inspired by Jade Tree (records). Grateful for my wonderful family in Germany showing us around and hosting us. What a place they call home. Something so special about the scenery, the immediate natural surroundings and the amount of undeveloped land you can see for miles and miles, other than windmills and farmland. As for Paris and Luxembourg, two very different cities, both very beautiful. I hope to see Haussmann architecture, renewable energy abundance, induction cooktops in every home, and kaffee und kuchen here in California soon. by @kyleoldhafer

I love California. It’s important that where I live and build a life is one in which catastrophic hardship and struggle aren’t common experiences for anybody. I see the health and resilience of the Californian middle class even in tumultuous times, but hard times are often manufactured intentionally. We can truly lessen the degree of suffering, and resilience of all people across this state will be needed because that’s what it’s going to take to overcome the forces that profit off of how things are and have been. This race was so important to me because I felt this was finally an opportunity to see my vision of progress implemented as policy. A vision of true structural change, even just the attempt to do so and say we need it had been unique. A vision in which we work our asses off to ensure that if you need to go to the doctor, you just go and you get treated without worry of a bill you can’t afford. A vision in which we invigorate neighborhoods by altering zoning so we can construct walkable places integrated with natural spaces, an urban environment that fosters community and sustainability. At a moment in which climate change touches us all, and the vibrancy of democracy disintegrates, the time is absolutely now to not just stave off what’s coming, but to move in hyperdrive fashion, towards a new political and cultural and material landscape. That’s why I supported @tomsteyer and had all my friends and family vote for him in the recent gubernatorial primary. I tried very hard and the outcome breaks my heart. I did my best for you guys and for California, because California is my home. My friends have built touring bands here, my friends surf its beaches daily, my relationship was built here on its coasts, in its forests, in its suburbs, at its small businesses, and in its schools. There’s always good happening even in what seems to be dire times, I just want to see even more of it and ensure that we’re building a truly human environment for now and the future, because it’s what we deserve. It was never about Tom personally and I think he knows that, it was about building on top of a pre-existing movement to fundamentally change society for the better. by @kyleoldhafer

Thursday is an interesting band. Post-hardcore clearly, but soaring emo as well, nonetheless the blueprint for much of third wave emo. Early Thursday was very much diy, that New Jersey hardcore scene was crazy, but they later partially developed the mainstream emo sound fellow New Jersey bands, most notably MCR, would go on to perfect. First and second wave diy ethics, melodic hardcore sonic sensibilities, with peak emo lyricism and vocals. Video courtesy of gunsnrobotss on youtube. by @kyleoldhafer
