I recently got the call that I was officially cancer-free.

I’ve only shared this journey with a handful of people close to me. I went back and forth on whether I even wanted to post about it, but I guess I decided to share because I’m not very good at keeping secrets and maybe someone out there needs to hear this today.

This past year has been one of the hardest of my life. My personal life, my career, and my health all felt like they hit rock bottom at the same time. Hearing the words “you have cancer” was every bit the cliché wake-up call you’d imagine. It forced me to stop doubting myself. I looked at love differently than I had in years. I began living with a little more intention.

I wish I didn’t always have to wait for life to smack me in the face to believe in myself and love myself the way I should, but here we are- and that’s okay.

I lost my mom to cancer when I was in high school, so this felt like a forced reunion with one of my enemies. But rather than fighting, I surrendered and shook his hand with grace.

I learned and grew as much as I could during our days together, and that’s how I hope to continue living my life. Learning, growing, and loving deeply. by @kyleponte_
