13 years ago today, I woke up in a treatment center in Ventura, CA. I was 20 years old, weighed 113 pounds, and I was covered in scabs from sticking needles in my body for years. I was extremely scared of feeling, the future, and what my life would look like without drugs. I had $6 in quarters, no identification, nothing with my name on it, warrants, bloody basketball shorts, and nowhere else to go after I had repeatedly hurt everyone who came in contact with me. My plan was to just go to treatment to avoid jail and get my family to leave me alone, instead I was given a second chance at a brand new life. I was desperate enough to do what was suggested. I never could have imagined that my life would be as full as it is today or that I could be a reliable human or a good son. Every single time my life almost ended in all the insanity that came with the lifestyle made me so grateful for the little things today. All I wanted was to survive and not be sick anymore, but I’ve been blessed with so much more. I wouldn’t be here without every single person who has invested in me and helped me when I had nothing. I can never fully repay NA, the universe, and those around me. 13 whole years without a mood or mind-altering substance. If you’re reading this, you don’t have to die and you are worth saving. 🙏 by @kylesmithjams
