Something about today just hit different. After speaking three sessions at Loranger Middle School, a student walked up to me and asked softly, “Can I pray for you?”

Here I am thinking I’m the one speaking into their lives…
and in that moment; he spoke into mine. 🥹

Moments like these remind me that impact isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet, heartfelt, and sacred. This is why I do what I do. taken in Loranger, Louisiana by @kylespeaks_

After speaking at a school-wide assembly, a young lady came up to me while I was signing pawns, Dunks, Crocs, and water bottles. She asked, “Will you pray for me?” I can’t front it kinda caught me off guard. As of late, I have met students who are loud about their love for God, but I also know how touchy that subject can be in schools. I asked her to give me a minute because there was still a line of students waiting.

30–40 minutes passed. I had just finished signing the last pawn when she came back and said, “Can you pray for me now?” Right there, in the middle of their gym, I prayed. I didn’t know her exact need(s), so I prayed the way I would pray for me. When I opened my eyes, hers were full of tears.

And in that moment, I realized… this work is bigger than speeches. This work is my ministry.

Reporting from Gonzales Middle School in Gonzales, LA! Stop 2 of 2.

About two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to pour into the teachers at Gonzales Middle. Friday, I came back to pour into their students. There was something special about watching an entire gym full of students walk in not knowing me, not knowing what to expect, and then watching them leave inspired, encouraged, and hopefully seeing themselves a little differently than when they walked in.

Through my Your Life Has P.U.R.P.O.S.E. message, I reminded them that there is a reason they exist. Their family needs what they have to offer. Their school needs it. Their community needs it. And one day, the world will need it too. But, you just have to believe that. Believe that your life will make a difference in the lives of others.

I challenged them not to allow their mistakes, their circumstances, or even the chapter they’re currently living in to become the definition of their entire story. Where you are right now is not the final word on who you can become.

S/O to Principal McZeal for bringing me back so quickly and trusting me to pour into her most prized possessions, her students.

In two weeks, I got a chance to pour into the teachers AND students. That’s how moments start becoming movements. (Anybody caught that 😏)

Reporting from EBR Readiness High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana! (Stop 1 of 2)

On Friday, I had the opportunity to pour into a special group of educators who serve students in alternative schools. And I reminded them that sometimes the students who make it the hardest to reach them are the ones who need us to reach them the most. I challenged them to pour so intentionally that when they make it back to their home schools they’ll never have to return.

Through Serve the Best Lemonade, we talked about looking beyond behavior, recognizing the potential behind the pain, and understanding that relationships and trust can become the doorway to transformation. Even in that setting.

One of the biggest issues I see in students across the country is they lack self-belief. Here, I am imploring to teachers that sometimes you have to loan your belief until a student is able to carry their own.

Google states:

Self-belief (or self-confidence) is a core driver of student success because it transforms how learners approach challenges, process mistakes, and stay motivated. Studies highlighted by the University of Michigan Center for Academic Innovation show that confidence often plays an even greater role in academic achievement than raw motivation or baseline intelligence.

I wrote this book hoping it would change the way people think. I never imagined I’d start hearing, “This book needs to be studied in leadership classes.”

Them folks better stop playing with me like that. Maybe that’s the difference between writing a book and building something that outlives you.

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to walk into schools and pour into students, teachers, and leadership teams. I do that extremely well! I’ve worked with certain parts of districts alongside superintendents and district leaders. And one time, I’ve even worked with a school board. But this one feels different.

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to now work at the system level, partnering with the leaders responsible for helping shape public education across an entire territory! Do yall hear me 😮‍💨

A huge S/O to Commissioner Wells for trusting me to partner with the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Education for a two-day Senior Leadership Alignment & Systems Strategy Retreat. We’re going beyond motivation and digging into the real work of REFORMING, REBUILDING, and REBRANDING public education through mindset, accountability, culture, systems, communication, and leadership alignment.

Every opportunity has prepared me for the next one. I don’t take this moment, this trust, or this assignment lightly.

One Vision. One Direction. One Standard. The Mentality Changer is going back to the U.S. Virgin Islands! 🇻🇮

p.s. unfortunately I will miss Benedict homecoming this year 😩
