Our very first Kadodzuke on @avenuemontroyal 🥁

A little over a month ago, Onikenbai.MTL performed in front of local businesses along Avenue Mont-Royal, a Kadodzuke, a tradition of bringing good fortune to an establishment. Our goal was to build ties with the neighbourhood, celebrate each establishment, and share a bit of Japanese culture through Onikenbai.

Months of preparation went into it: reaching out to businesses, working with the SDC Mont-Royal., and training together to build the stamina for the big day. We had our share of nerves about the weather, about dancing safely, and about how the public would receive us.

The weather turned out beautifully, and every mini performance drew curious passersby to pause and watch. We connected with many local businesses, some of whom truly embraced the spirit of Kadodzuke, and friends kept us safe and accompanied us through all five hours.

A huge thank you to @kyotofleurs for being willing to anchor this project. It likely wouldn’t have started without your support. Thank you also to @affiche_en_tete for the enthusiasm and encouragement you brought to the collaboration. We truly appreciated everything you did for the big day. And thank you to all the other participating businesses for taking a chance on us. We hope our performances left you with some positive energy and good fortune! @comete.bake.shop @bincho.resto.bar @ohayocafemtl @magnoliacafe.mlt @ekkip @sushidepanneur @fukuromtl @tripdebouffe @phomontroyal

🤍This one is from the vault ! I looked at the pictures and realized how on trend they still are. Someone was telling me how effortless our style and designs are and I taught it was such a beautiful complement. I went back to look at some of our work...because imposter syndrome can creep up sometimes.

And this past weekend, I was reminded of how special love is. The last wedding has truly moved me. Like any job, we can get stuck in the normality of doing what we do... but not last weekend... it reminded me of why we chose this path and how incredibly grateful we are to be part of so many beautiful events.

So cheers to all the beautiful people out there who still believe that being a good human is first and foremost far more important that hate and division.
Love is love is love!

🌸 by @kyotofleurs
