Stewarding feminism for the future. @feminist founder documenting the movement & mobilizing for liberation.

POSTS STORIES REELS

On one of the most visible stages in the world, @europeanparliament, I drew attention to the ongoing censorship of women, girls and gender expansive people’s voices online. We cannot reach gender equity with a censored algorithm.

This issue is an undercurrent to how all our issues intersect. If people are being blocked from accessing women’s health information or vital reproductive health information, we know it’s happening across movement spaces and issues. It is a violation of our human right to access information.

LGBTQ+ communities and artists have been sounding the alarm for years as accounts have been wrongfully removed and banned from Meta platforms. I was joined by @aborcyjnydream , an org that provides access to abortion in Poland where access to care is banned, and @stopcryingjosie, a German creator speaking out against fascism. Both accounts were banned for little to no reason. Banning Aborcyny Dream directly blocks people from reproductive healthcare, and it’s a form of violence. A big thank you to @reprouncensored for organizing this pivotal convening and inviting @feminist.

It’s unacceptable, and we should all be speaking out about it and holding Meta accountable.
It was an honor to be hosted by German MEP @alexandrageese, who has not only written and passed legislation to hold big tech accountable, but also validated our experiences and believed us.

feminist voices are not often believed when we speak out about shadow banning, reduced reach online, suddenly losing our right to monetize for no reason on these platforms, or having our accounts removed altogether. And I often think about how this issue of being believed relates to speaking out against gender-based violence or our own experiences of surviving violence.

It was monumental to be heard by this powerful government body, and I am incredibly honored to continue doing this work with @alexandrageese and @reprouncensored. by @kypolanco

I’m so grateful to all the brilliant voices who contributed to my @ForbesWomen piece, sharing personal reflections on Gloria Steinem’s extraordinary legacy and the passages, lessons, and themes from her final memoir, An Unexpected Life, that resonate most deeply with them today. The book has become a New York Times bestseller – a poignant testament to the enduring power of Gloria’s words and ideas.

I’m deeply sad that I never had the chance to interview Gloria about the book as we had planned. But I know she would have loved these beautiful tributes and the ways they bring her wisdom to life, reminding us of all we can learn from her and the importance of carrying her work forward.

I hope you’ll read these reflections and find inspiration in them, too. Link in bio. 💜

Let’s be clear about why we mobilized people on October 8. It was never just about the 57.

We’re demanding accountability for every sexual predator, rapist, and abuser who still holds power,

and for the system that protects them while women, girls, and gender-expansive people pay the price across the entire world.

FROM LSU TO CORNELL TO DELHI AND PALESTINE THE SEXUAL VIOLENCE MUST STOP

Over @feminist, we answered the call to join a coalition with @womensmarch @feminist.gen metoomvmt to organize a national day of action from the frat house to the White House. It looked like dozens of student walk outs across the country, a rally in front of the New York courts, protestors marching on the mall to the White House and actions up down every coast.

Beyond this moment, seeking that justice looks like heading to the polls this November and voting the assholes out of office.

It also looks like survivors in positions of power.

Because we will never see true justice, never see true accountability, until survivors are the ones holding power. REMEMBER your vote is your voice.

We are collectively witnessing a systems change, it looks like the people protesting and fighting back against ICE, women and girls sharing their own stories of SA publicly and students protesting around the world.

It’s an honor to do this work in such a pivotal moment where we are on the precipice of change. 🫶

Big thank you to the brain trust behind it @tabithastb @rach_carmona @aquibyacoob Kim the legends at @feminist.gen, Tyra and all of Me Too International… and all the 🌹🌹🌹 to the team @feminist by @kypolanco

Thank you @risenow.us @amandangocnguyen for creating this space, inviting me to walk, and showing the world that survivors have the power to take back power.

The poetic justice of wearing a vintage men’s YSL suit in an institution dominated by patriarchal values, and shutting down the place so survivors could walk the runway.

A community of survivors, advocates, astronauts, olympians, leaders and changemakers walked the New York Stock Exchange on a runway to raise awareness for the economic injustice survivors of sexual violence face.

10/10 recommend IRL feminist meet ups. @daisychainfields owes me nothing, I owe @oliviarodrigo the gratitude for energizing our movement and creating a space that proved there is so much to be hopeful for right now. And we’re not alone in that belief. 🌼

I witnessed our collective voice amplified across valleys and into core memories.

Festivals with purpose >

Proudly aiding and abetting

Yoko Ono’s Peace trees blossomed as you entered the festival. What I saw were women of all ages writing wishes and tying them into blossoms… if you can dream it, it can grow!

In true DIY feminist spirit, instead of ordering and shipping branded pins… it just made sense to use the moment to craft together and make something special from the heart to share with community.

👑 this moment was profound to witness and I say this with immense gratitude and admiration: but our rights & access shouldn’t depend on celebrities and billionaires. bodily autonomy isn’t charity, it’s what we deserve! our taxes should fund healthcare, childcare, and reproductive care…not bombs on families in Gaza or anywhere in the world! We deserve a network of care embedded into our system, a government that actually upholds equality and equity.

Imagine having an idea and seeing it exist beyond you and into future generations. I actually teared up watching the power of Sarah Maclauchlan stand on stage with Olivia Rodrigo essentially passing the baton. From the mind of Sarah in the creation of Lilith Fair in ‘97 to 23 year old Olivia watching the documentary and asking, how do we do this today? 😭 that’s why we do this work, for the movement not the moment.

It was a real festival! We had no service and dead phones.

👼

A feminist herstory walk led you from stage to stage. Incredible poetic and a metaphor that exemplifies today can only exist based on the work of our ancestors who envisioned change was possible.

Heat stroke, hour long lines, 2.5hours stuck in the parking lot… still the best day ever and 5 star rating. by @kypolanco

For months we’ve watched in anger and rage that none of the perpetrators are being held accountable for the systemic sexual violence of girls.

Watching the system and media in real time has been a reckoning. Us women are reflecting, we’re sharing our own stories and we’re grieving. All the times we were told we were crazy when in reality we’ve known the depth of the violence our whole lives. Whether in the corner of my DM or parties and bars, women are TALKING.

What is evident and TRUE is that gender based violence is in the very thread of the United States. Sexual violence is as deep as the soil you stand on, a tool for claiming a land that was never theirs.

For far too long, generations, people have been silenced for speaking out or self censored in order to not face further harm. In this coalition we say WE’RE DONE. And this is a disruption. A coalition of survivors and orgs are coming together in solidarity with the Epstein victim-survivors in LOVE, and power. We will continue to demand justice and accountability. If it has to 🔥…

In 2020, @feminist grew from 1 million to 6 million followers organically in just six months.

But as @kypolanco , co-founder of Feminist, shares in this week’s episode of Mindful Mondays, the growth was never simply about numbers.

At a time when people felt disconnected from leadership, isolated, and unheard, many turned to online spaces searching for honesty, community, and recognition.

This conversation explores what happens when platforms become more than content — and begin to feel like movements people can belong to.
