happy birthday to my blessed. you walked through hell and back this year and i just want you to know how much i admire you for it. there were days i know were harder than you let on, and yet you still showed up, still kept your heart open, and still found ways to be there for the people around you. i’m so grateful i got to be right there with you through all of it. watching you navigate everything with so much strength and grace has honestly been one of the most inspiring things ive ever witnessed.

Shipwrecked on a Greek isle, Telemachus, son of Odysseus, and Eucharis, a nymph on the island, fell in love. Monvoisin’s painting depicts the young lovers bidding farewell. Athena intervened to make this happen, disguising herself as Telemachus’s guardian mentor and forcing the young man to abandon his beloved to search for his lost father.

The scene comes from François Fénelon’s 1699 novel Les Aventures de Télémaque (The Adventures of Telemachus), inspired by characters in Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey. by @kyrabarmoen
