To the Canadian Border! Sections 7 & 8 of the Montana BDR:

Section 7: Thompson Falls To Libby - 113 Miles
After a short stretch of pavement from Thompson Falls the route turns to dirt and climbs to Vermilion Pass at over 6,000 ft in the Cabinet Mountains. Be sure to stop at impressive Graves Creek Falls on your way to the pass.

On your descent, you’ll ride the shoreline of picturesque Fishtrap Lake followed by a series of fun, flowy dirt roads. After a stretch on Hwy 2, venture back into the foothills of the Cabinet Mountains through tight forested 2-track roads and consider the worthy side trip to Howard Lake before the last stretch of Highway 2 that leads to the town of Libby.

Section 8: Libby To Canada Border - 125 Miles
The final section of the MTBDR heads north out of Libby on beautiful scenic ridge roads and works its way up to a cabin and viewpoint on the upper reaches of Big Creek Baldy. After descending, the roads get more primitive and overgrown so use extra caution for branches, downfall, and vehicles heading in the opposite direction. As the route meanders along the next ridge, beautiful Lake Koocanusa comes into view, with the tallest bridge in Montana. Consider the short side trip up to Black Butte Lookout before reaching Eureka.

The final stretch passes by homes and farmland, then turns to rugged 2-track before officially ending at a remote parking spot. Here you can follow a walking path to the US/Canada border, clearly indicated by a clearcut alley of trees as far as you can see. NOTE: the border is electronically monitored and crossing the border will activate a response from Homeland Security. Ride Respectfully on this final out-and-back to preserve our right to visit this special place.

Incredible couple of nights backpacking on the Timberline Trail. 30ish miles with two important men in my life. Thomas was my child with the ability to take time off of work. We missed Hannah ❤️. Lincoln has sworn off backpacking unless there is no elevation changes. This pretty much rules it out forever. Michael, the man I get the pleasure of spending time with joined in the fun. I felt great and no blisters were made but a day after we got home my knee swelled up to a melon. Thank goodness it didn't hurt while hiking. I suppose this is the hidden gem of aging. Injuries pop up when you don't know they exist. I want to backpack more often. It is a special way of getting out in nature. taken in Mount Hood, Oregon by @kyrie_adventures

Yesterday I rode the White Rim trail near Moab. It was spectacular! Started off the day with the Mosko Moto team but due to dust it really became a ride of two ladies out doing what we love. I am appreciating the friendships that are cultivated through this shared passion. The people really make the experiences into memories that will be cherished. Well.... the day was off to a great start. Apparently jumping off 3' straight vertical ledges (in pic #2) aren't in my current skill set. First significant break on my dirt bike. Thank goodness I wear tights because somehow in the shenanigans I fully ripped my pants fully open. St. George .... I will be back for you. by @kyrie_adventures

Nature fuels my spirit, friendship fills my heart! Four days of pure bliss, 180 miles of single track, physical challenges, amazing humans, flowers in bloom, camping, surprise visitors from Arizona, and unexpected friends camping at the neighboring campground. It’s been a long, long time since my body had an attempt at a full system meltdown. It was warmer than expected, not enough water available to wet myself down to stay cool, 40 plus miles of relentless Gifford Pinchot single track. After the car ride to get some chow in Trout Lake, getting out to walk inside my body was so tight it reminded me of my 1/2 iron triathlon days. HOLY HELL! My riding has really shifted recently. I’m riding stuff I use to ask for help with. I’m tackling big root steps that are stacked tightly, rock formations and serious consequence exposure. Maybe, just maybe that’s why I’m so worked over. Touratech 2024 was a blast! I had the privilege, honor and pleasure of leading and sweeping group rides for Touratech. Two of the four were women’s only rides. I feel so fortunate to be part of the amazing ADV community and to be able to gather with like minded folks pursuing our passion of two wheels. On Sunday I went out to expose the FE501 to her first single track ride. The Mad River trail system is no joke. Lots of fun and a fair amount of challenge. On Monday I headed to Dirt First training school. I spent the day with Jason Sherman learning a lot about how my body position can change to improve my riding. With some tweaks of positioning, I can now jump logs that are nearly twice the size I was comfortable with before. I’m excited to see how these new tools change my riding.
