⛺ Fall camping season is winding down at Green River Lake State Park, and there's still time to enjoy a lakeside getaway!

Park Manager Wes Lantham has the details on the final two weeks of camping season, so if you've been thinking about a fall camping trip, now's the time to make plans. With waterfront campsites available, you may have a chance to snag a spot with a view of the lake!

A few important things to know before booking:
• Only self-contained/primitive camping is permitted during this period.
• When reserving online, select “Standard No Electric” to find the appropriate campsites.

The park plans to host its popular Halloween in the Park weekend, providing another opportunity to welcome campers back Oct. 16–18. 🎃

The campground is scheduled to close for the season after October 31, so don't wait too long to plan your visit.

At Lincoln Homestead State Park, the golf course isn't the only thing that's still looking green! ⛳

Fall color is taking its time here, but that just means there's still plenty of green on the course. With October underway, it's a great time to get in a round of golf and enjoy a little Kentucky history along the way.

Against the misty mountain backdrop of Kingdom Come State Park, a bald eagle took flight during a release by master falconer Mitch Whitaker over the weekend.

There's something special about seeing this magnificent bird return to the skies above Kentucky's mountains.

🪶 Remembering the Stories That Came Before Us

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to recognize and honor the histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Kentucky State Parks preserve places that help us understand those stories.

At Columbus-Belmont State Park, a sign marks the site of the Benge Detachment Camp, where Cherokee people were forced to wait in 1838 during their removal from their homelands. The site is part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.

More than 15,000 Cherokee began their forced journey west in 1838, and the Trail of Tears also encompasses the removal routes of other Southeastern tribes. Today, these historic places help us remember the hardships of removal while honoring the resilience and survival of the people who endured it.

History is not just about where we've been. It's about whose stories we remember and continue to tell.

A little time outside can be a good thing. 🍂

For World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10, we're encouraging you to make a little time for yourself. Take a walk. Sit by the water. Watch the leaves move in the breeze. Leave your phone in your pocket for a while.

With more than 300 miles of trails across Kentucky State Parks, there's plenty of room to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Kentucky’s history runs much deeper than the stories we learned in school. 🌾

With Indigenous Peoples' Day coming up on Oct. 12, it’s a perfect time to look beyond the familiar chapters of Kentucky’s history.

At Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site in western Kentucky, visitors can learn about the Mississippian culture and the people who lived here more than 800 years ago. This community was part of a larger network of societies across the Mississippi River region, with agriculture, artistry, architecture and trade all playing important roles in daily life.

As we head into the weekend, take some time to explore a part of Kentucky’s history that may be new to you and learn more about the Indigenous peoples whose history and legacy continue today.

🍂 There’s always more to discover.
