“Get kids on the water, and make it fun!” On Sunday, 11 October, 65 young paddlers aged 6 to 12 got their first taste of junior-level Kayak Cross, competing in sit-on-top kayaks. The event was hosted by Midlands Paddling School as part of the KZN Guppy League Inter-Schools Series. The series aims to grow junior paddling in KwaZulu-Natal, with an emphasis on adventure, camaraderie and fun. Held on a beautiful stretch of the Lions River on a privately owned farm, the event was made possible through the combined efforts of the wider paddling community, including parents, volunteers, coaches and PaddleSport KwaZulu-Natal. It was inspiring to see the next generation take on this new Olympic discipline with such courage and enthusiasm! An exciting step forward for the growth of Kayak Cross in South Africa! 🇿🇦 A special thank you to @donwewege , Chairman of the @PaddleSportSA Slalom Technical Committee, for his guidance and for overseeing the event. 📷 @hulettphotography taken in Lions River by @kzn_canoeing
