A huge thank you to everyone who attended the first edition of the KZN Art Fair at the Hilton Arts Festival this August. It was gratifying to see people delighted and impressed by the quality of the Fair, and we are grateful for the positive feedback many of you have shared.

We are also grateful to our 2026 exhibitors, who presented artists from emerging to established, from provincial to national, and to the designers who took part in 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥. We couldn’t have done it without you! For us, it was the perfect combination of community and industry, and proof of a concept that has been germinating since 2021. The first edition has firmly established that KZN can attract talent, audiences and collectors from around the country, and that the province’s latent talent can shine locally.

Please stay connected via our social media platforms. We’ll be opening exhibitor applications for 2027 in January, and hosting a series of talks and get-togethers from February to August next year.

Design is about the details.

We loved our Design Zone 'Making Ground' with @belgotex, which celebrated creativity, innovation and making across KwaZulu-Natal.

Bringing together designers, makers and creative practitioners, the exhibition highlighted the breadth of design excellence emerging from the region.

Which pieces were your favourites?

We cannot believe it's been over a month since the inaugural KZN Art Fair!

We are still so inspired by the weekend of galleries, artist collectives, collectors, designers, curators and visitors who came together to engage contemporary visual art in KwaZulu-Natal.

A huge thank you to PANDA PAINTS for sponsoring the art materials for our first visual arts Jongosi Day - a day where schools are immersed in making, walkabouts and talks.

Since 1977, @panda_artsandcraftmaterials has been committed to making safe, high-quality and affordable art materials accessible to children and adults across South Africa. Their longstanding commitment to non-toxic formulas, safety and accessibility helped make the day possible. by @kznartfair

Last weekend, the Culture Club team made their way to Pietermaritzburg for the inaugural KZN Art Fair, where our Johannesburg and Durban teams got a rare chance to reunite and experience a significant moment for KZN’s art scene together.

It was a privilege to take part in the first edition of the KZN Art Fair, hosted by the Hilton Arts Festival at Hilton College this past weekend (7–9 August).

At Booth 8 in the Memorial Hall, we were delighted to share works celebrating modern and contemporary art — including pieces by JH Pierneef, Irma Stern, William Kentridge, Cecil Skotnes and the great KZN artist Andrew Verster — with the attendees. Thank you to all who took the time to visit us and engage with the works!

An exciting highlight of our time at the fair was our Art Specialist Tiyani Rikhotso joining the panel ‘From Initiative to Infrastructure: Building Art Ecosystems’, a rich conversation on the practical work of growing and sustaining South Africa’s arts landscape.

Congratulations to the entire team on a remarkable first edition. KwaZulu-Natal’s creative energy is undeniable, and we are deeply proud to support it.

A look back at our installation at KZN Art Fair | Hilton Arts Festival! ✨

We loved seeing The Social Life of Materials come to life as Art-ists Collective and watching the space transform around the work.

A huge thank you to the artists, @kznartfair team, @hiltonartsfest and everyone who came through and supported us. Your support means so much to the artists and our collective. 🫶 by @kznartfair

That's a wrap on our inaugural KZN Art Fair at Hilton Arts Festival.

From our team, we would like to thank all the exhibitors and artists for joining us and taking the leap in starting something new in KwaZulu-Natal. Our arts ecosystem is better for it. Thank you to the attendees and collectors for supporting.

Congratulations to our Directors, Angela Shaw and Lungelo Mkhize, for making it happen.

Thank you to our team of media makers and educators; Niamh Walsh-Vorster, Paulo Menezes, Nzu'zenhle Mkhabela, Joanne Hayes, Sumayya Menezes and Dr Rachel Baasch. We are small but mighty.

Finally, to @hiltonartsfest for being our launching pad. Our partners and sponsors FNB visa, @belgotex, @umngenitourism, @midlandsmeander, @contemporaryarchiveproject, @hiltoncollege1872.

Until next year! 🖤 by @kznartfair

The inaugural @kznartfair took over the Midlands this weekend. For many, it was less “take my money” and more “let me have a look”, browsing, discovering and getting a feel for the region’s growing art market. by @kznartfair
