When I had my first born child I wanted to do things differently. I remember my mentor telling me when I was a young man..."Shane, you would have a Harvard education if someone gave you the chance!" As I grew older I understood what that meant. It was a gem passed down. He was telling me to pay it forward. So the first place I applied it was my daughter, my first born. I wanted her to be brilliant. From the day she was born I knew she was destined for greatness all we had to do was out part. Give her love and teach compassion. Teach her right from wrong. She had a amazing foundation to work with, her mother a full time firefighter, a hero in her community, and her father a passionate musician with a fire to bring humans together as one. Her eyes so beautiful and skin so fair....she entered the world. Not much hair on her head, yet it would grow long and beautiful.
Now....how are two parents breaking into their 20s gonna figure this out. We wanted something that had never happened in either of our families. We wanted our daughter to make it to a top college, a university, but we are talking about a newborn. Well that's when it starts....it's a promise two parents make...to make education important. So we did research. What programs help child development and what things can we do to improve the chances. Her mother would nurture her with love and had already delivered her through natural child birth, no medication, like I said earlier a hero to us. Providing her with the best nutrition...Mommy's milk. We were off to a great start. We set some ground rules for what we wanted to do differently. No pacifier, minimal to no baby talk (okay that was hard actually), and lots of love. I would craft flash cards with colors, shapes, numbers, and letters....this started as soon as she could see. We quickly noticed she was ahead of her time. Walking, talking, and retaining everything that came her way. Her mommy would sing her songs and Daddy would play her records. She was beyond advanced. Her grandpa said...."the new boss is in town" and boy was he right. From the moment she entered into kindergarten it was on. The scholar had arrived. CONTINUED BELOW IN COMMENTS... by @l_i_e

In the past few years we have laid some of our closest friends to rest and this year was no different. Two months ago one of our best friends was diagnosed over night with life threatening cancer, it really puts life into perspective. Who do you love? How much time you may or may not have with them. For me there isn't a more important person than the one who has given me my children. If I was to lose her I would be devastated. She has selflessly gave her body to the fire service for almost 20 years and brought me four priceless gifts. Our babies. Just like most relationships our life has been full of ups and downs, trails and tribulations, happiness and hard times but I wouldn't change anything for this would offset what the creators plan is for us. See if we go back and change our history then we don't get the same gifts. Our four kids are so amazing and unique, we are beyond blessed. Each one came into our lives and made us step up in different ways. Now back to this remarkable woman...I wouldn't be the man I am today without her. She gave me the ability to travel and deliver my message to the world. One people...All equal. Along the way we opened our home to many people who needed a place to stay, or a plate of food, or help with their music/art careers and with as many people as we know it happened alot. She never said no to my crazy plans or ideas. She embraced each artist. To say the least I have put her through way too much. If you ever benefited from my message or work.....it was because of her holding down the family while I was away. She is a loving and giving heart. I write this and share this with the world because I don't want time to pass by or either of us to leave this place without everyone knowing what a safe person is, what a rock is, and what a lucky man I am. Through all my struggles and traumas, I have always been able to count on her. Her eyes bring me comfort, her voice brings my balance, and her hugs calm me down. She is strong and brave, often facing serious life moments with me gone on the road. Her position as a firefighter has put her in the face of danger more time than I can count. She is our hero. This one hurts differently....just bumped into you recently. Coming up on the hip hop scene in San Diego you knew who had bars, who could really freestyle, who was battle ready, and who was a real emcee. Joe "Sighphur One" was all of the above. He was from Ocean Beach but he could pull up to any city and be a threat to the battle. If he was on....anyone could be in trouble. Behind all the music and hip hop shows....you could see him laughing and joking with his people. Since we all have social media you could see when he got married and his family life. You may catch him at his job when you were out on the town. His energy, laugh and smile was infectious...his charisma could carry the room. At this time we send our condolences to his family. We want you to know that he made a mark on the city of San Diego that is permanent. This unexpected loss will be heavy on many. Our hearts and prayers are with everyone he had an impact on and with his loved ones. May he rest in peace. Joe Sighphur One Ford.....Forever! by @l_i_e
