Four weeks ago, our family’s world was rocked with the passing of my mother in love. On 3/3/25, she lost her battle to the devil…cancer. Watching this montage made by our cousin @shotbykiko , was bittersweet for me. On one hand, I felt sorrowful and overwhelmed with emotion because I’m reminded of the pain my family felt that day and the days leading up to it. On the other hand, I’m content. Content with a homegoing that was truly fit for a queen.

“How will you be remembered?” If you had the pleasure of meeting her, you fell in love with her and if you didn’t do so initially, it was only a matter of time. For those that didn’t know her, it’s not hard to see the type of person that she was. On the day we laid her to rest, Baby Boomers to Generation Alpha alike, were in attendance. Walking into the church with not an empty seat in sight will forever be engraved in my memory. It spoke volumes to the lasting impression that she left on this world.

On this morning, I went back and forth with myself on if I would share what I had written the night before. I’ve always shied away from public speaking but I felt that it was important to share my testimony, especially from a daughter-in-laws point of view. I hit the jackpot when it came to mother-in-laws and she deserved her flowers.

Here is what I shared at her repass…

“Good afternoon friends and family,

For those of you who don’t know me, I am mummy’s daughter in love, Katutu. I met mummy when I was just 16 years old. It was at her home in Westbury for a Christmas party. I’ll never forget our first interaction. I was met with a warm smile and a welcoming embrace.

Through the years, her family and friends have showered me with love and I believe it has a great deal to do with how much she loved me out loud. Since her passing, I’ve been consistently reminded of how much she loved and cared for me. Although it was reciprocated during her time here, I’d like to share with you all today how much she meant to me.

She was the mother in law that one could only dream of. An anomaly. Imagine someone loving you before you ever gave them a reason to.
