Paul Stankard,

You told me that I would go to the stratosphere. I’ve been paid many compliments in my 20 years as a glass blower. But when you said it that day, it was the first time I really believed it, and it changed me.
That was the effect you had on people. You believed in us. You encouraged us. You taught us and inspired us.
You didn’t just make glass a work of art, you made your life a work of art.
This is the truth of your legacy.
It was person you were and the way you expressed your soul through your work that elevated glass as an art form and paved the way for all of us.
Thank you for living a true and authentic life. Thank you for giving so much to the glass world.
Thank you for your relentless pursuit of excellence.
Thank you for making your life a beautiful work of art.
Thank you for your profound impact on my life.

May you rest in peace among the flowers 🌹

“This is the essence of great art. We make it for no other purpose than creating our version of the beautiful, bringing all of ourself to every project, whatever it’s parameters and constraints. Consider it an offering, a devotional act. We do the best, as we see the best- with our own taste. No one else’s. We create our art so we may inhabit it ourselves.”

-Rick Ruben , The creative act.

There’s nothing that fills my spirit quite like teaching glass blowing. It’s truly an honor to be able to help guide others into a deeper understanding of glass. I love to witness others taking on a challenge and the pure joy that comes when we create something to our liking. My favorite moments are when I see the light bulb go off in someone’s head and I can tell that something about the way they look at glass has shifted. As a teacher these are the moments that make me feel the most proud. To be honest I feel like I learn just as much from my students as they do from me. I’m profoundly grateful to have the opportunity to share this beautiful medium with others.
Many thanks to @snowfarmcraft SnowFarm Craft School in New England for hosting me this week. It was such a great experience to be on their beautiful property. The food was amazing, the scenery was amazing and so were the people. I highly recommend taking classes here.

I also want to give a shout out all of my students.
Each of you were so awesome to hang out with all week. I very much enjoyed our conversations and the laughter that seemed to flow in abundance. Getting to know each of you a bit was a gift. I look forward to seeing how you all progress in your glass journey.
Thank you for this experience. I will cherish the memories.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” -Wayne Dyer

I give you “Golden Hour” A collaboration between myself and the talented @blossom_glass .

Photography by @windhome

This beauty just took first place in the glassblowing competition at the @dfofamilyreunion This was a huge honor and highlight of my 22 year career in glass. I’m so grateful for all the ways the universe aligned to make this piece possible.

The world takes on an ethereal glow right before sunrise or sunset. This shift in light allows us to perceive things as more beautiful with a golden hue attached to it. The pose of the female figure is inspired by the golden ratio, a design that occurs in nature and gives us perfectly pleasing proportions. This piece is about perspective. About seeing the world in a different way, about taking the time to recognize natural beauty. I hope you enjoy 🌈🌟🩵🙏 by @lacefaceglass

I can’t believe my life right now.

I feel so blessed and filled up with inspiration I could burst. @blossom_glass and I took First place at @dfofamilyreunion this weekend. I have to thank my partner in the competition @blossom_glass who is one of the most hardworking, talented and bad ass women I know. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her on this project.
Portland is a dream. A beautiful city full of big trees, gorgeous gardens of spectacular flowers, and beautiful people who are just as colorful. This place captured my heart and I look forward to coming back.
I am humbled and honored by my glass community and I can’t thank everyone enough who came out and participated in the event. Thank you to @northstarglass and all their amazing staff for holding space for our community. Thank you to all the volunteers, the vendors the enthusiasts and artists for making this event an amazing experience. It was the biggest honor to work alongside all of the other amazing artists, the work that was created was truly inspiring. My favorite part of this weekend was seeing so many friends and family. Some old some new but everyone excited about glass and so freaking happy just to be together to celebrate our craft.

Im starting to believe that dreams are like postcards from our future self. A snapshot of what is to come if only we choose the authentic path. I had a dream about this many years ago. A dream that one day I would accomplish something great. It took 17 years and 6 tries at this competition. I tried and failed spectacularly on multiple occasions, sometimes dropping my piece at the last moments of the competition. I spent years feeling like I had something to prove, trying to win and failing over and over again.
This triumph came at a moment when I stoped caring about the win and focused on just living in the moment and creating something beautiful. Isn’t that what they say about love… that it finds you when you stop looking. When you stop chasing and begin to attract. Perhaps that’s the precise time when the universe allows the dream to become a reality. This was a moment I’ll cherish forever. Thank you glass fam🩵🙏🩵 by @lacefaceglass

I don’t do this very often.
But now I feel called to share my journey. My life is changing. All my cells rearranging as I face a new chapter in the life. My wings starting to take shape after breaking from the chrysalis of grief and pain of this last year.
After the hardest year of my life I needed to feel alive again. I needed to shake myself back to life, To fill my spirit with love and beauty and remember how to live again.
So I’ve been on an epic solo road trip across the country.
Medicine comes in so many forms.
For me, it looks like driving from Texas to Oregon with my little boy. From the Carlsbad caves of New Mexico to Zion National park, I felt humbled standing before the wonders of Mother Earth. Medicine looks like going on the scariest roller coaster with my favorite person.
Medicine looks like returning the ashes of my mother to the river that raised her. Connecting with my family and old friends, surrounded by people who know the real me.
Medicine looks like going to a fair in the woods filled with beautiful art, music and people. Remembering that this is what life is all about.
Medicine is putting myself in the way of beauty. Seeking the waterfalls and the warm sand, stopping to notice the miracle of a beautiful wildflower.
I am filled in ways I didn’t expect, looking forward to a new chapter.
Honestly I can’t wait to see what comes next.
