The unimaginable happens when you take off your headphones and talk to the people around you. ❤️🇮🇹

This summer, I traveled around Italy teaching English to children, and somewhere along the way, the world started to feel a lot smaller. Between the language barriers, cultural differences, crazy heat waves, and no AC, I found pieces of home in people I had never met before. I’m endlessly grateful for this opportunity and for the wonderful staff who trained me, the teachers i worked with, and for the families and nuns who opened their doors and hearts to me. Although language barriers were constant and at times i was staying with people who spoke little to no english, these people reminded me that love truly is a language of its own.

This experience pushed me outside of my comfort zone, challenged me, and stretched me in ways I never expected. But pouring into these children and watching them learn, grow, and gain confidence reminded me exactly why I want to be a teacher. My biggest hope is that these kids remember me, even in the smallest way, because I know I’ll carry them and the memories we made together for the rest of my life. This trip taught me to lead with joy, choose connection, and never underestimate the beauty that can come from simply talking to the people around you! ❤️ by @lacey.volkk
