Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! 🌎

Let’s work together to keep food waste out of landfills and restore #healthysoils in #LA.

Today, we’re highlighting a sustainable action you can take: dropping off your food scraps at an LA Compost Farmers’ Market drop off location!🥑🥬

We spoke with community composters at the @silverlakefarmersmarket, and their reasons for composting were truly inspiring. 🙌🏽

Do any of these reasons resonate with you? Comment below on why you compost.⬇️

We're excited to share that our Senior Manager, Mark, was recently featured in KCRW's Good Food Substack! ✍🏼

KCRW staff, Janek, visited our "Compost Cabin" at the @audubon_debspark to talk with Mark about the power of community composting and how it can help LA reach its organic waste diversion goals under SB 1383.

🪱 The feature also offers a behind the scenes look at our vermicomposting system and shares how Mark's journey with LA Compost began.

Thank you to the @kcrwgoodfood team for highlighting the role community composting plays in building healthier soils, stronger communities, and a more resilient food system.

Looking to try gardening this summer? 🌱 Join us at select Farmers' Markets to learn about the Three Sisters planting method and take home free seeds!

The Three Sisters is an Indigenous planting tradition in which corn, beans, and squash are grown together. Rather than competing for space and nutrients, each plant supports the others by contributing unique strengths that help the entire garden thrive while promoting healthy soil.

🏡 All attendees will receive free corn, bean, and squash seeds to plant at home. We'll also share simple planting tips and best practices to help you grow a successful Three Sisters garden.

We had a blast celebrating Juneteenth at @ighgardens! 🍽️🎶🎉

For years, we've been inspired by the work of LA Compost Board Member, Charlie Southward, whose work through IGH Gardens helps connect seniors and neighbors experiencing food insecurity with fresh, organically grown produce. We were honored to support this special dinner celebration and fundraiser.

🌱 Along with a beautiful day at the farm filled with music and delicious food, attendees went home with finished compost and fresh produce from the farm. 🍋

We're so grateful to @ighgardens for welcoming us to this special celebration, and to Chef Rod from @organicharvestgrdns for preparing such an incredible meal. Until next year!

Summer Lovin’, had us a blast! 🎉 Thank you to everyone who joined us for our volunteer and community celebration! ☀️

Last Saturday, we gathered at the Sepulveda Garden Center Compost Hub to celebrate the incredible community that makes our work possible. Volunteers and community members connected while making eco vision boards, sifting compost and meeting local organizations like @shiftourways.

🌱 Our @caclimateaction Fellow, Esther, also led a special compost demonstration, showing how healthy compost absorbs and retains water. 🙌🏼

💚 Thank you to @circularfashionla for providing free basic clothing repairs for everyone. @justicetea kept everyone refreshed with drinks, and @sandandlove generously donated adorable totes and other sustainable goodies for people to take home.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us. We can't wait to see you at the next one! by @lacompost

Exciting news: LA City Council plans to keep compost local! 🎉

On Tuesday, we joined @bobblumenfield and friends from @treepeople_org, @people.foodandlandfoundation, @ncsa_la, and @lagoodfood at City Hall to advocate for stronger local composting infrastructure.

Community composting brings neighbors together to recycle food scraps into healthy soil, keeping valuable resources in our communities. Healthy soil grows healthy food, supports biodiversity, and absorbs stormwater. We believe every neighborhood in LA deserves the opportunity to compost and reap these benefits.
