Whenever I am asked if want to go get a drink or if I miss it, the answer is no. While maybe I wasn’t a straight up alcoholic, alcohol gave me the worst experiences. It hurts my Crohn’s disease. A year and 9 months ago I was intoxicated and severed my ulnar nerve in my left arm. And as someone living with chronic pain, this was one of the most painful, hardest accidents to recover from. I still lack feeling in my left pinky and ring finger, and have numbness from those fingers all the way down the side of my arm and to my elbow. While physical therapy has led me back to building my strength and rejoining the aerial world, my hand and its function will never be the same. I don’t miss it. I have way more fun without it.

When I was a child, I thought all doctors were like my dad, because that was the high level of expectation and example he set. When I grew up, I disappointed to learn that simply was not true.
There is a standard of care that is severely lacking in too many of today’s medical professionals. There is a standard of humanity that we are simply allowing to slide, and people who should not be given access to those in their most vulnerable situations are doing so without repercussions. We should be ruining the lives of boys who are r@pists, before they turn into our doctors/coaches/teachers etc. who are r@pists.

A post outside of the norm, a post I wish was happier. Yesterday was the day a hero gained his forever wings. He was the best grandad, the only dad I ever knew, the most amazing and respectable medical professional, a legend and my hero. I aspire every day to make him proud. He raised me to be strong, and kind, to serve others, to expect to always learn something new every day, to never stop learning; there will never be another man like Dr. Jim Upchurch. His experiences and accomplishments were nothing short of incredible, and the communities he served knew nothing but his care and love. I miss him with all of my heart and soul, but energy is forever and he is in everything, everywhere, all at once. The @bighorncountyambulance wrote this beautiful tribute for him that I wanted to share with some photos.🙏🏻❤️‍🩹✨
