Today on the site, @ladyproclaimer shares 6️⃣ things she is thankful for as a single mom ♥️ This is a must read! 👉 Comment THANKFUL and we’ll send a DM with the article.

“The term “single mom” has an enormous amount of stigma attached to it, especially as a black woman. Early on, I feared what others might say or think. I even had a close family member shun me. However, my journey as a mother has been nothing short of rewarding. I’ve discovered my strength, my capacity for love (because, wow, loving a child expands you), and my ability to forgive. I’ve learned to reclaim the term as something I get to define, not something people can define for me.”

Homecoming Dump. ❤️💙🦬
Black folk specialize in making Heaven here on earth despite the hell we face. God’s got us and we got each other.

“Black people’s laughter is one of my favorite sounds.” I wrote this sometime ago on Threads, and it’s true. In my view, our laughter contains multitudes. And I believe this poem describes just how necessary and sacred our laughter is.

Shoutout to @kianeink for being an incredible host and to the feature artist @analysisthepoet whose word play and imagery are top tier. 😮‍💨👌🏾 And my loved ones who came out to support.

August was coming to a close, and on a hot Friday it wrapped me in the coziest hugs and told me to fly. I exhaled, said a prayer, and God did the rest.

I drove to NY with two home girlies in the passenger seat and got to do one of my favorite things: perform poetry! It’s been a while, but it felt so right. In the thick of grief (a childhood friend of mine passed two days before), a balm of love eased my ache.

After a rough week that turned every way but loose angels, in the form of friends, loved on me. And I’m thankful that love keeps lifting me.

New Yoorrrrk owes me nothing! Those lil’ twenty-four hours were worth the ride. I’m thankful to the Queens of @brownsugarlit for accepting my work and curating a dope night of art and expression!

Shoutout to August ending with a little spark of bliss. Shoutout to friends who will love you real good!

Life lately: the past week has been full. The beautiful, busy, bittersweet kind of full.

Niecey-pooh went off to college at Clark Atlanta. 💅🏾🎓
Baby boy’s school was closed for two weeks, so he spent some of those days at work with Mama. 🥹
I experienced Pure Poetry Live with a new sister-friend, where poetry became prayer and we worshipped our way through a sister’s testimony.
We welcomed the incoming freshmen and their families, and gathered for our first Chapel service of the school year. 🙏🏾
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I finished Mara Brock Akil’s first novel. Whew. So. Good.

A week of goodbyes and beginnings.
Of work and wonder.
Of little people growing up and little people growing alongside me.
Of sisterhood, storytelling, worship, and words.

Life has been lifing, and lately, I’m grateful for all of it. 🤎 by @ladyproclaimer

4️⃣

Four incredible, life-altering years. What a wildly beautiful grace this journey has been.

I thank God each day for the gift of this little life. His unfolding has become one of my greatest teachers, revealing resilience, joy, holy patience, wonder, and the sacred purity of childhood. He is brilliant, endlessly inquisitive, deeply passionate, and an absolute delight.

To witness him becoming is one of the greatest honors of my life. To guide him, nurture him, and love him through each new season is a calling I never take for granted.

What a treasure. What a gift. What a beautiful reminder that miracles don’t only happen—they grow.

Happy Birthday, my sweet Micah. 🤍 by @ladyproclaimer

Today I had the joy of worshiping alongside my Catholic siblings as I witnessed the installation of my dear colleague and friend, Most Reverend Robert Boxie III, as a bishop in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. In this historic moment, he becomes the youngest bishop currently serving in the Catholic Church.

His years as Catholic chaplain at Howard University profoundly enriched the spiritual life of our campus community, and I am filled with gratitude and pride as I witness this new chapter in his ministry. What a gift it was to be present for such a beautiful and sacred occasion.

Ordination and installation services are always monumental moments. They remind us that the Church marks holy callings not only with words, but with embodied acts of blessing, memory, and hope. Across denominational lines, I am always deeply moved by the ritual of the laying on of hands—a tangible expression of the communion of saints, of shared faith, and of a community declaring together, God’s grace is with you.

To watch Archbishop Gregory, the first Black archbishop of Washington, lay hands upon Bishop Boxie felt especially sacred. It was more than a liturgical act; it was a quiet testimony to legacy, perseverance, and the ways grace travels from one generation to the next. Some moments invite us not simply to observe history, but to feel its holy weight.

Congratulations, Bishop Boxie. May the One who has called you continue to strengthen your hands, enlarge your heart, and guide your shepherding in the years ahead. Amen. by @ladyproclaimer

Life is a series of tiny moments. The milestones mixed with the mundane and if you’re present enough, they can feel like one in the same.

Blessed to witness some beautiful moments last week/weekend.
- Baby boy is moving on from preschool
- My niece is official done with H.S. and headed to Clark Atlanta in the Fall (I remember when she was born 🥹)
- Gathering with fellow Mamas was the icing on the cake
In the midst of this cray cray world, I’m savoring every ounce of joy. by @ladyproclaimer

I’m feeling all the feels from a weekend full of Black art, community, and joy.
The bonus is I ended my birthday month crossing 3 items off my bucket list:
Seeing Erykah Badu Live
Seeing Jay Z Live (10/10 🤌🏾👌🏾)
And experiencing The Roots Picnic

Other notes, ate at a Michelin star Cheesesteak spot and ran the “Rocky Stairs” 💪🏾

Philly, oh, Philly. Thank you for such a vibe! 🥂

Commencement season is always a splendid time. A sacred crescendo where you witness the becoming of students you’ve prayed for, poured into, and cheered on from near and far. You know some of the obstacles they’ve had to overcome, and somewhere along the way many of them become more than mentees, they become family.

Just a week ago (time truly flies), I basked in the deep pride of watching these students (and so many others) cross the stage. To witness their brilliance unfold in real time is a gift I never take lightly. I’m incredibly grateful to have been even a small part of their journey.

I look at them and feel hopeful. Assured that the future is in thoughtful, compassionate, capable hands.

May God bless and keep each one of them. Shine bright, beloved! ❤️💙
