Come join us this Sunday for a presentation by @aetnastreetsolidarity on the history of their incredible Really Really Free Market, to help inspire us to make our own in DTLA!

I visited their Free Market for the first time last year and I was so struck by how amazing and well organized it was. With tons of vendors providing so much free clothing, food, healthcare, art, and so many other opportunities…

I knew I wanted to start something like it in DTLA as well!

We are super excited to learn more about organizing with you all to make it happen soon, and talking to Aetna Street Solidarity about their history and expertise seemed like a really good first step!

In addition, we will be cooking and serving as usual, so it will be a great day to come check out our kitchen and get involved with what we do!

Volunteers can start coming in at 2 to help with cooking if they’d like.

Presentation starts at 4:30, will be about an hour, then afterwards we will be heading to distro around the block to serve our weekly free dinner to the public!

The address is 821 E 6th St. (The Hippie Kitchen)

Surprise midweek distro of ice cold water and electrolytes thanks to generous donations

It’s devastating to see our unhoused neighbors being completely exposed to the dangerous scorching hot weather, many consecutive days of 100 degree temperatures.

The heat in Los Angeles the past few months have felt dang near existentially dysregulating.

As the conditions of life under our current system gets more and more difficult, we will need to practice more and more kindness and mutual aid

I try to keep our IG light, funny, and positive because doing mutual aid is indeed very fulfilling and heartwarming.

(And the cute clips are good for the algorithm that brings volunteers, which makes what we do possible week after week)

However, I’ve noticed that we’ve been running out of food faster and the line at our distros have gotten longer.

There is a sense of accomplishment when we have cooked and fed so many people, but I can’t deny the heartbreak when we turn people away after we are out of food.

Rising costs of groceries and benefits getting cut really feel like they are taking a toll on the most vulnerable of us.

We’ll keep doing what we can, but I hope more of yall get in on the mutual aid scene, because you are truly needed more than ever before by @lafnb

We at Food Not Bombs are continuing our mission of feeding the people and community building!

We believe Mutual Aid is one of the most fundamentally fulfilling practices a person can bring into their lives!

Making food and feeding people, not for profit, but for the inherent humanness of it, is the most fun thing to do! Ever!!

Thank you so much for @lxs.cochinxs for bringing their incredible music to distro!

I asked them to play music for us, to raise awareness that mutual aid doesn’t have to be a thing where you go “volunteer to help a good person”, it’s actually just a super fun and fulfilling thing to do! by @lafnb

Come volunteer with us for a very special Food Not Bombs Distro this Sunday at 6pm!

You can come meet us in the kitchen or at the distro location! Music starts promptly at 6:30!

We at LA Food Not Bombs truly believe in Mutual Aid!

During these chaotic and scary times of empire and late stage capitalism, mutual aid is a practice that reminds us that the only thing that matters is communal care and kindness!

Who takes care of us? We do!

To help celebrate our weekly practice of feeding our neighbors a delicious free dinner, the incredible Lxs Cochinxs will be playing a very special set!

We want people to really start getting involved in mutual aid, in whatever form, so come get to know us and start showing up for the community!!!

🚨

If you are more privileged than the community that we serve, bring some of snack or dish to share!

Couple bags of chips, some Gatorade, WATERMELON (for the heat) etc etc etc

LA Food Not Bombs has been on fire!

We are still meeting every single Sunday to cook free food for the people!

We decided to give some attention to the distro, to demonstrate that mutual aid can be an incredibly fun celebration!

We are trying something new out, inviting musical guests to accompany our dinner! We want to feed people’s body with food, and their spirits with soulful art!

Very special thanks to
@tarazorthian and @frankhurricane
For gracing us with their incredible talent!

I think I can personally only plan about 1-2 of these special distros a month, but please continue to help make LAFNB run, with your volunteering! Even when there isn’t a special musical guest!

We have so much more planned, so please keep supporting us! We are trying to do the work!

We truly think that mutual aid can be the most fun and enriching part of your week!

To celebrate, we will be hosting a series of our favorite musicians, who will be performing LIVE during our distro, where we feed 200 people!

This ain’t no regular show! It will be your chance to participate in radical community building and recource sharing! While we are listening to amazing music!

If you are coming from a privilaged place, try to bring some food, potluck/picnic style, to share with all of our neighbors.

First attempt at making a Food Not Bombs reel!

We’ve had a slight shortage of volunteers recently, and so I wanted to try to by better at sharing what it is we do every Sunday!

Kinda corny, but I think it’s going to ultimately help us grow and feed even more people 🌱

The more followers we have, the more volunteers come through, which means bringing more resources to the neighborhoods that need them the most

It’s my first time ever making one of these, so if you could give me any tips or pointers on making these things, please let me know below

If you have any requests for future reels please feel free to share! by @lafnb

Hey everyone!

Sorry about the lack of updates.

One of our volunteers who has been with us the longest, my best friend, and dog named PB passed a few weeks back and I just haven’t been in the right mental space to keep up with social media. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

He always added to the vibe and LAFNB and was loved by all. He will be sorely and overwhelmingly missed!

Rest in Power lil guy!

We have been serving every week tho!

However, our folding tables went missing and we had to make do with serving out of a truck a couple times. Do you have a folding table you could donate or sell for cheap?

Sometimes our FNB crew brings their kids, and sometimes they bring their parents!

Something about including your people from all different ages is so beautiful.

It’s really nice to be with a whole array of ages! Feels more like a holistic community. by @lafnb

Call for action!

We won’t have access to our kitchen for a little bit, but we won’t miss a day in serving free food to our hungry neighbors!

We would love your participation in our potluck style serve this Sunday!

Just bring any plant based dish, no need to be fancy! No real need to humongous portions, just enough for a family meal!

Bring the dish straight to 6th and Maple and we will have a table set up!

Bringing instruments and music is encouraged as well! by @lafnb
