Hi Lager Dog friends! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, as I feel like it’s been almost nothing but that on my end since last July. And I am grateful for the good moments thrown in there. But alas, Lager Dog will be taking a hiatus. Recently, my mother had a month long stint battling covid in the hospital and since last November, my stepfather in law had been battling with terminal lung/throat cancer. My mother is doing much better and is considered a covid long hauler, but sadly my beloved stepfather in law passed away this Thursday it’ll be two weeks ago, with us, the immediate family by his side.

Seeing both of my strongest family members go through a medical crisis gave me an appreciation of care giving and I want to help out in the healthcare field. I know how hard it’s been due to covid. So here is some good news finally… starting in March I’m entering a nurse apprenticeship. I know that the healthcare system direly needs all the hands they can get, so for the time being while Lager Dog is on hiatus, I will be in that field helping out as much as I can.

Lager Dog won’t be going anywhere. Just cause I couldn’t make it happen NOW doesn’t mean it’s the end of it. I’m just taking a break from it and the beer industry. I’ve been in this industry a very, very long time and I’ve been grinding away at this for a while now. I need a breather because even us nice folks that put on smiles all the time need a mental health break and some time to save money (direly needed hah and no I won’t do a fundraiser because that just ain’t me but thank you for offering) so I can continue with my dream of one day opening the brick and mortar Lager Dog.

I wanna thank everyone that came through and got one or several Lager Dog hot dogs, told me sweet, kind comments about my food, told me a hot dog story, shared hot dog DMs with me, and all that fun stuff. Mega big ups to the raddest homies Shahin and the Novare Res Bier Cafe crew and Greg, Josh & Tim and the entire Oxbow Portland Crew for letting me pop-up with Lager Dog the past year. Y’alls support means the absolute world and truly kept me going. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Last night we r&d’d (sp?) some new hot dogs and this one was so bangin’ that it’s gonna go on the menu for tomorrow. EGG? GORGONZOLA? CHUTNEY? ON A DOG, DAWG? Yes, don’t knock it till ya try it 🤩

Our Lager Dog hot dog ripper love letter to Maine and Maine Italian sandwiches. The Maine Italian was invented right here in Portland, ME in 1903 by baker Giovanni Amato (@amatos_official). 25 years later, in 1928 in Clifton, NJ at Rutt’s Hut - the NJ ripper was was getting invented by Royal “Abe” Rutt and his Wife, Anna.

Say heyyyyy to ‘Mini Sancocho Caldas’ - today was the first day back on the menu and we sold out of it by the end of the day. Named after my Colombian side of the family‘s last name, this recipe is super close to my heart since it’s been passed down through generations.

From my abuelita Aurora to my mom @amparoglo and now me (and I’m sure it goes back even further) - this traditional Colombian stew will keep ya warm, happy and help any hangovers ya got. Also great for Maine winters.

We’ll have a fresh batch of Sancocho alongside our Lager Dog hot dogs tomorrow from noon till 5pm at Oxbow Portland. Come thru and say hi! Hope to see y’all!

You might have caught the “Mucho Mucho Amor” documentary on Netflix about Walter Mercado, legendary iconic astrologist and tv personality from La Isla Del Encanto aka Puerto Rico. If you haven’t, I think it’s still up and you should most definitely peep it!

This hot dog is an homage to my Boriqua side of the family (my fathers side) and all the fam that still lives out in Aguadilla, PR and my fascination and love of watching Walter Mercado on TV growing up in a Hispanic household in NYC. This is your typical Puerto Rican hot dog that you’d get at the hot dog stands right by their beautiful beaches.

What a beautiful day it has been. Just R&Ding at home —the weather has been lovely, we’ve got some Northern Soul 45’s gracing our record player and the vibes have been great. I know the world stinks right now with all the crap going on, but one of the rules at LD is to keep positive and smile every day. 😊
