Nothing beats book mail on a dull, dark, rainy day.
This gorgeous edition of T. Kingfishers The raven and the reindeer was a must have. Really love her books.
And after reading The southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires by Grady Hendrix, I just had to get Witchcraft for wayward girls. Looking forward to both!

Just finished The book witch by Meg Shaffer and after reading it I think it was a bit much YA even though the MC Rainy is in her twenties.
I read Shaffers book The lost story and absolutely loved it so I had some expectations reading this one, but it did not quite live up to them.
Not a bad book, a very original concept of a book witch being the protector of books and stories, keeping fictional characters in check and saving the day.
To her aid she has Koshka, her faithful familiar in the shape of a cat and also The Duke of Chicago, a fictional character and love interest who has escaped his own storyline.
The plot twist… well a part of me saw it coming but I still appreciated it cause it’s always an interesting angle when the MC starts questioning what is real and what is not.
And it also touches the subject of book banning/burning which was kind of a lucky coincidence since this week is all about banned books.
Maybe not my cup of tea but all in all I give this book 3/5 stars mainly cause of the ingenuity of the story itself.
And if I in the future get another cat, I might name it Koshka

So a couple of pages in Thistlemarsh by Moorea Corrigan I start to fear the worst. That the plot is built on Clichés. Helpless damsel in distress gets presented with a task that she has no way to complete and has to rely on the help of a hardheaded, rude stranger. They manage, they fall in love, the end.
And even though this sort of aligns with the plot it turns out that yes even though the stranger might be rude and hardheaded, she is not a damsel in distress.
The MC’s (Mouse) mission is to restore Thistlemarsh Hall which she gets to inherit if she manages to complete the task within a month or get married. Of course Thistlemarsh is in shambles and the mission seems hopeless until she releases a faerie from its prison.
Thornwood (the faerie) is quick to lend his aid in this predicament in exchange for her pinky finger (yep you read that right). Will he help her or does he have his own agenda?
I was a bit worried at first when I started reading due to the clichés that started to line up one after another, but I ended up really liking the story. It’s an easy read, interesting story and interesting characters. I absolutely would recommend this to someone who wants something quick to read.
3,5 stars out of 5

Soooo tired after the big book fair in Gothenburg today. Loads of books, visitors and authors. Unfortunately I did not end up buying anything this time although I visited a couple of book shops afterwards were I picked up a couple of books. The issue with book fairs is the amount of people. Sometimes it’s just hard to cut through the crowd to be able to check out the different publishers, sellers and whatnot. But all in all a fab day with my husband ❤️

Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires Is the first book I’ve ever read by Grady Hendrix and now I’m starting to wonder why. I immediately ordered Witchcraft for Wayward Girls cause Southern book club’s guide to slaying vampires was an excellent read and I’m looking forward to more of hopefully the same style in his other books
At some points it really had me at the edge of my seat and I don’t usually react that way when reading books. I mean sure a book can be thrilling but the scene in the attic was so chaotic. I caught myself sitting absolutely still and holding my breath while reading it. Aaaand I was more than once throughout the book thinking of the meme with James McAvoy ”That wasn’t me, that was Patricia”
Interesting characters, strong female lead (You go Patricia! Believe in yourself when nobody else does!), a very well played out plot and overall just a fantastic book.
I didn’t really think that vampire books were for me, but this book is an exception
5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I sooo hate when it feels like I really don’t have anything good or inspiring to say about a book. I had been really looking forward to this one, expectations being rather high and then it just fell flat.
But like I’ve said before, just because my taste didn’t agree with this book doesn’t mean that it’s bad or that you won’t like it.
For me though Plant lady by Minyoung Kang was a very slow and uninspired read. I did like the aspect of the empowerment of women in abusive relationships, but that was about it. Maybe the book has lost some of its soul and meaning in translation, cause let’s face it, there are a lot of books that are way better when read in the original language and maybe that’s the case.
I just felt the story missing dept and the ending felt a bit unfinished. I’m sorry but even though I finished it I just couldn’t get into it.
I’m giving this 1/5 stars ⭐️

So this was really not what I expected when I started to read this book. I imagined the plot to be a long the line of: big beautiful house that scares and kills people and the owners vanquishes the house, the end. That could easily have been the plot and nothing more. But this is more, so much more than I anticipated.
This is indeed a story about a haunted house but this is also a story about domestic abuse, alcoholism, a marriage slowly crumbling and a family navigating this sort of trauma in different stages of life.
The September house by Carissa Orlando has been on my radar for quite some time and I must say that Carissa has outdone herself with this one and I hope to see more from her in the near future.
The characters are deep, complex and the ghosts are to say the least very interesting, each with their own backstory of how they became the tormentors of the house.
The daughter of the main character sort of got under my skin at times and I just wanted her to be quiet and stop being so rash, but further along in the story you start to understand why she behaves the way she does.
And remember… all will be fine if you follow the rules of the house. Or will it?
Easily 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you haven’t read it yet, get to it!

What’s in the package from Amazon?! Swipe!
It’s Plant lady by Minyoung Kang.
Seen this trending a bit and I ordered it a while back, but Amazon hasn’t exactly delivered this book with warp speed, but still glad that it finally arrived!
Have you read it and what were your thoughts?

Spooky season is by far my favourite season of all year. It slowly gets darker outside, the vibrant colours or fall, candlelight evenings… the list is long!
And now in the beginning of september I find it quite fitting to start The September house by Carissa Orlando. Heard so much about it and finally I get to read it myself

Prepping for september with a couple of new books (like my TBR isn’t long enough already). Two of the books qualify for spooky season and I’m really looking forward to reading them.
The mini book haul consists of:
Daggerbound by T. Kingfisher. The second book in the series. Not gonna read this one yet though. Gonna read them all at once, but I think the next book isn’t released until 2027 so I will have to wait a bit.
Earthbound by Saara El-Arifi. The third book of the Faebound series. Huge fan or her!
The September house by Carissa Orlando. Really looking forward to this one. It’s been hyped quite a bit!
The house that eats the dead by Max Doty. This was an impulse buy but I am intrigued.
Sooo time to get cozy, light some candles and embrace spooky season 👻🕯️☕️

I read Sunyi Dean’s book The book eaters a while back and I must admit that it did not impress me much as I thought the story felt a bit forced and with this in mind I didn’t really know what to expect when I started reading The girl with a thousand faces.
I was pleasantly surprised. What an interesting story with a huge plot twist that took me completely off guard.
At first I was a bit hesitant cause it felt like the book just barely touched the main story and then the took a deep dive into the background. Sunyi later manages to tie the stories together in the most magnificent way and you slowly start to see the big picture.
The dialogue is brilliant, well written and delivered by interesting characters.
I guess you can say that two of the red threads through out the story is generational trauma and the power of forgiveness. Add a hint of folklore and you get The girl with a thousand faces.
And btw, just look at that gorgeous cover!
4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reading has been really slow since I started working again after summer vacation. When I get home I am all drained, lacking energy and commitment and at best I get to read a couple of pages before I fall asleep and the book comes hitting me in the face.
With this in mind, Between two fires by Christopher Buehlman wasn’t probably the best choice right now.
I am sorry to say that even though this is a pretty hyped book, I couldn’t really get into it. I sooo wanted to like it, but this really was a stretch for me. Sure it had chapters that were more enjoyable but I thought it was a bit unevenly paced and that makes me lose interest.
I guess you can call the book a blend of historical fiction, horror and a bit of fantasy all in one and even though all three are categories that I appreciate, I just didn’t ”feel it” reading Between two fires.
Yes, Buehlman is successful in delivering a quite dark and cataclysmic scenario where good must fight evil, angels against demons, the faith of man kind against destruction, but I felt like the ending fell a bit. I was expecting something a little more bombastic seeing that this was a fight of biblical proportions, but it sort of ended anticlimactic.
Don’t get me wrong, the book had its highlights but they don’t carry it all the way.
It was a weak 3/5 stars for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️
