POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
For the rest of the year, we will be showcasing projects from talented Nigerian creators, from art and industrial design to software development projects. What we really want to show is how Nigerian creatives contribute to both local and international projects.

Nigeria is a creative hub, known for its musical geniuses and famous artists. Home to exceptional and amazing talents in the world, and we desire to make it easy for people to find these projects in one place. Our features will let everyone see how these projects were made and learn about the creators and their teams.

We are presenting Nigerian creative projects to help creators learn from and inspire each other. Seeing the work done by a colleague in any creative field will spark new ideas and open the door to collaboration. We strongly believe that by bringing together creators with different skills, the overall quality of Nigerian creative work will get even better.

We will do this by interviewing creators and spotlighting really cool projects and collaborations. Feel free to reach out if you have a project you think we should showcase.

In his compelling fine art photo series, Ẹ̀mí Àtijọ́, Lagos-based creative director and photographer Michael Polycarp, popularly known as June Montage, brings the foundational history of Oba Orhogbua of Benin and the origins of Eko to life. Drawing from the story of a king who envisioned a city from a pepper field, the project explores the power of vision, heritage, and the legacies that shape a people’s identity.

The striking centerpiece features model Victor Chibuike (@victor_chibuike_), framed by a tight, symmetrical arrangement of hands adorned with rich, deep-red coral beads. The contrast between the polished beads and the subject’s skin, enhanced by dramatic studio lighting, creates a captivating portrait filled with texture, symbolism, and cultural depth. Shot using Canon equipment supplied by @canoncnafrica, every detail contributes to the series’ powerful visual storytelling.

Bringing the concept to life was a dedicated creative team, with historical styling by Eda Royals (@styledby_edaroyals) and production and staging support from @iamhigh_jay. Together, they transformed the shoot beyond conventional portraiture into a visual archive celebrating ancestral heritage and indigenous history. The project reflects Michael’s broader commitment to exploring traditional mythology and cultural identity through contemporary photography. Beyond his fine art practice, he leads brand strategy, photography, and campaign execution for commercial clients through June Studio, while mentoring emerging creatives through his educational design course, The Cheat Code.

Through this blend of historical research, creative collaboration, and cultural reverence, Michael continues to expand the possibilities of contemporary West African photography, preserving indigenous narratives through striking visual art.

For many young Africans, securing remote work with international companies presents an appealing career path, offering the promise of no daily commute, increased scheduling flexibility, and the potential to earn in foreign currencies. These remote opportunities are often viewed as a golden ticket to a better lifestyle, autonomy, and financial growth without needing to leave home.

However, the reality of working remotely is not always as liberating or straightforward as it initially appears. Professionals navigating this lifestyle frequently encounter challenges such as professional isolation, blurred boundaries between personal life and work, and the absence of traditional on-site support systems.

Additionally, remote workers often face infrastructural hurdles like unstable internet connectivity and power supply issues, coupled with the complexities of managing cross-border employment dynamics. Ultimately, while remote work opens up global opportunities, it also demands high levels of self-discipline and adaptability to manage its unique pressures effectively.

For digital painter, visual artist, and illustrator Success Aromayeh, creative boundaries are pushed by building detailed character concepts and dark fantasy pieces entirely on a mobile phone using only a finger and apps like Sketchbook and Ibis Paint X. Operating out of Nigeria, this digital and traditional artist turns unconventional workflows into an extraordinary display of patience and technical precision.

The portfolio features a striking mix of digital painting studies, dramatic lighting experiments, and traditional pencil or charcoal sketching. Whether exploring dynamic boxer lighting contrasts, cartoon illustrations, or complex character concept art, the work captures deep attention through expressive brushwork and vivid color choices. Pieces like the phone-painted fantasy figures highlight an uncommon dedication to mastery without traditional desktop hardware.

Beyond mobile digital illustrations, Success showcases versatility across physical mediums including murals, custom artwork, and realistic portraiture. This ability to fluidly transition from raw pencil sketching to complex digital color studies reflects a deeply grounded artistic foundation that embraces any tool at hand.

Success goes on to show us resourcefulness and creative dedication. By merging a strong traditional foundational discipline with digital accessibility; redefining what is possible when raw talent meets relentless practice.

RECOMMENDED PODCAST EP.

“Change Your Name” from PG Essays explores the critical business decision startup founders face when they do not own the exact-match dot com domain for their company name. The core thesis argues that having a matching dot com domain confers immediate credibility, trust, and authority in the market, which can heavily influence a startup’s long-term success and growth trajectory.

Founders frequently resist changing their names due to two primary psychological forces: personal attachment to an initial identity and a perceived lack of imagination to find anything better. Paul Graham explains that this attachment is simply an illusion born from familiarity rather than inherent superiority, noting that founders would feel equally attached to any alternative name they had used from the beginning.

Naming is presented as a distinct, specialized skill that is entirely separate from the technical or operational abilities required to build a great startup. By recognizing that company naming is an orthogonal discipline, founders can overcome their hesitation, seek outside creative help, or secure better domains early on before stubbornness makes future rebranding far more painful and costly.
