There’s a moment in every artist’s life when a quiet calling becomes impossible to ignore.
For me, that calling was directing.

I didn’t feel ready.
I didn’t feel “qualified.”
And I definitely felt the weight of the responsibility that comes with guiding a story that holds so much truth.

But some stories ask you to rise.
Some stories insist that you grow into the person you need to be in order to tell them.
OWNERSHIP was that story for me.

Directing this film changed me.
Watching audiences lean in, pause, reflect, cry, and begin conversations they weren’t having before.

That changed me too.

It reminded me that filmmaking is not just about craft, it’s about courage. It’s about creating space for humanity, honesty, and healing.

I’m grateful for every person who has watched this film, sat with it, and allowed it to spark something inside them. You are the reason stories like this matter.

If you’re an artist holding a story that scares you a little…
don’t shrink from it.
You have no idea whose heart it might open.

💛

We'll remember this summer for a lot of reasons. ☀️

Jason began the season on stage as Benny in HYMN with @ldte , in a powerful production that received an incredible response from audiences and critics alike. Watching him pour himself into this role and seeing his performance so warmly received gave our family plenty to celebrate.

OWNERSHIP continued its incredible festival journey at @chandlerfilmfestival & @phoenixfilmfestival. The summer kicked off on a high note as Yvonne returned from her home state of AZ. There, she was surrounded by her mother, family, friends, and mentors who have been part of her story long before she stepped behind the camera.

Together, we also had the opportunity to put our philanthropic hearts to work by supporting Rooted in Heritage and its commitment to education for all children.

Then the journey took our whole family to Martha's Vineyard, where we celebrated OWNERSHIP at @MVAAFF and turned an incredible festival experience into a beautiful summer vacation with our children.

There were standing ovations, screenings, travels, celebrations, new friendships, and milestones we're incredibly proud of. But somewhere along the way, we realized the best part wasn't what we accomplished.

It was who we got to share it with... Our family. 💛

Our children are older now and they're experiencing our work differently. They're watching the rehearsals, the preparation, the risks, and everything that happens before anyone sees the finished work.

And now we're getting to watch their dreams unfold, too.

This summer, Grace took another step into her own creative journey through UCLA Emerging Filmmakers, where she had the opportunity to immerse herself in storytelling, filmmaking, and creative collaboration while learning alongside industry professionals.

Watching her explore her own voice and discover what she can create has been one of the sweetest parts of our summer.

Perhaps that's what we'll remember most about this season. Our children weren't simply watching Mom and Dad pursue their dreams. We were getting a front-row seat as they began pursuing their own.

This truly was a Lagralane summer to remember.☀️

I will always be EXTRA about celebrating Black women in film. 🎬💛

One of the greatest gifts of my time at MVAAFF was being surrounded by Black women who are creating, writing, directing, producing, and bringing their own perspectives to the screen.

Women who aren't just making incredible work, but showing up for one another along the way.

That matters to me.

I want us to be EXTRA proud of the stories we're telling.

EXTRA supportive when another woman's work enters the room.

EXTRA collaborative because there's so much we can create together.

EXTRA encouraging of the woman still finding the courage to take her first step.

And absolutely EXTRA joyful when it's time to celebrate one another. 💃🏾

I hope we continue making room for more of our stories and voices while encouraging the next generation of Black women to step behind the camera, pick up the pen, call action, build their teams, and boldly bring their own stories to life.

To the incredible women I had the opportunity to connect with, create alongside, and celebrate at @MVAAFF, thank you!
🫶 @peppurthehotone @loveleahlynette

Let's keep showing up for each other. And when one of us wins...

Let's be EXTRA about that, too. 💛🎬

I've been fortunate to receive awards for OWNERSHIP, and every single one has meant more to me than I can express. But there are also moments of recognition that will never sit on a shelf.

At @MVAAFF, I had one of those moments.

To have Glynn Turman, an artist I deeply respect and admire, and his beautiful wife take the time to congratulate me and speak so generously about my work felt almost surreal.

I walked away thinking about the power of words.

When someone whose work has inspired you sees something in your work and takes the time to tell you, those words carry weight. They affirm something inside you. They encourage you to keep going. And sometimes, they arrive at exactly the moment you need to hear them.

That kind of encouragement is incredibly valuable in the life of an artist.

And it reminded me of something I never want to forget.

As we grow, create, and find our own success, we have a responsibility to turn around and recognize the artists coming behind us.

Tell her the work moved you. Tell him you see the potential. Share their project. Celebrate the risk they took. Speak the encouraging words.

Because the next generation of artists is already creating, and we have the privilege of helping them believe their voices belong here.

Awards are beautiful.

But never underestimate the words an artist may carry with them for the rest of their career.

Thank you, @glynnturman1. I'll carry yours with me. 💛

Pull up a chair. Pour something good. Let's talk. 🥃

Welcome to Lagralane Spirits, a podcast built around something we deeply value at Lagralane: meaningful conversation.

Think of it as an invitation into our living room. A meeting of the minds where cocktails are poured and conversations unfold around identity, history, culture, creativity, and the people shaping the world around us.

We ask questions
We listen
We laugh

And sometimes we discover that what's in our glass can lead us somewhere we never expected.

Across each season, we've invited fascinating guests to join us for the kind of conversations you might find yourself continuing with your own friends long after the episode ends.

And if you're new to Lagralane Spirits, our latest season is a great place to start.

🥃 Season 3: In the Spirit of Bourbon
We took the podcast on the road to Kentucky to explore Bourbon's past, present, and future through the women and people of color who have helped shape the industry.

We shared cocktails with master distillers, entrepreneurs, craftspeople, and changemakers while discovering the history and humanity behind one of America's most iconic spirits.

So grab your favorite pour and join us. Lagralane Spirits is waiting for you.

For @yvonnehufflee, directing OWNERSHIP became personal. 🎞️🎥💛

What began as the opportunity to bring a story to the screen also opened the door to questions about her own history.

As a first-time director, Yvonne approached OWNERSHIP with curiosity. She collaborated closely with the artists around her while continuing to sharpen her own vision for the film.

But that curiosity didn't stop on set.

During the process, Yvonne began exploring her ancestry beyond the generations she already knew. What she discovered sparked even more questions about identity, inheritance, family history, and the stories we carry forward.

Those same questions live at the heart of OWNERSHIP.

Who gets to hold wealth? What happens when families carry half-truths and historical burdens? How do we acknowledge trauma while still making room for love, healing, and hope?

Yvonne never intended for OWNERSHIP to provide all the answers. She wanted it to make us curious enough to start asking the questions.

For those who are just discovering OWNERSHIP, welcome. 💛

We hope this story encourages you to look a little closer at the history you inherited and perhaps begin exploring your own.

Today we're celebrating our Co-Founder, Jason Delane Lee.

Actor. Producer. Entrepreneur. Creative partner. Champion of artists. Family man. And someone who has never been afraid to say YES to an idea worth believing in.

Jason brings curiosity, generosity, and a whole lot of heart to everything we build at Lagralane.

He's the person who asks the bigger question, takes the creative risk, makes room for another voice, and reminds us that meaningful work is even better when you get to build it alongside people you believe in.

And somehow, we have a feeling he's only getting started. 👀

There are new projects taking shape, stories waiting to be told, artists to champion, and plenty more on the horizon.

So today, we're raising a glass to the man who has helped make Lagralane what it is and continues to dream about everything it can become. 🥃

Happy Birthday, Jason!🎂

Here's to another year of creating, investing, impacting, and saying YES to what's next.

When I look back on our time at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, I won't just remember the screening.

I'll remember experiencing it with the people I love most.

Watching this journey unfold alongside Jason has been one of the greatest gifts. We've dreamed together, created together, and believed in stories that invite people into deeper conversations.

And having our children with us reminded me that this journey has always been about more than making a film.

It's about the legacy we're building together.
As artists.
As storytellers.
As a family.

This week gave us the chance to reconnect with dear friends, meet incredible new ones, celebrate remarkable filmmakers, and share OWNERSHIP with an audience that welcomed it with such generosity.

To everyone who watched the film, shared a conversation, offered encouragement, or simply crossed paths with us, thank you. You became part of this chapter, too.

As I reflect on this experience, I'm reminded that the stories we choose to tell shape more than audiences.

They shape us.

And they become part of the story our children watch us live. Thank you, @MVAAFF, for giving our family memories we'll always treasure.

Cheers to great memories! 🥂

The film was never meant to be the finish line.

If you joined us at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, thank you for sharing this experience with us.

One of the greatest gifts of OWNERSHIP has always been the conversations that begin after the lights come up.

At @MVAAFF, we experienced that in such a personal way. Audience members came up to Yvonne after the screening to share their own stories, their rich family heritage, and the curiosity the film sparked about histories they wanted to understand more deeply.

Those conversations are exactly why we created the OWNERSHIP Pledge. Not as a conclusion, but as an invitation to keep exploring and sharing.

🔶An invitation to continue exploring your own family history.

🔶To engage in meaningful conversations with the people you love.

🔶To discover books, films, museums, and resources that deepen your understanding of our shared history.

Because we believe meaningful change doesn't happen in a single screening. It happens when we remain curious, ready to listen, and willing to learn.

If OWNERSHIP sparked something within you, we invite you to take the next step.

Visit the link in our bio to take the OWNERSHIP Pledge and explore a curated collection of resources designed to help you continue the journey.

Because stories have the power to inspire us. What we do next is where transformation begins.

Before a story can reach the world, someone has to make space for it to be told.

That's a belief that continues to guide everything we do at The Lagralane Group.

For us, storytelling has always been about more than entertainment. It's about making room for honest human experiences. It's about investing in artists with something meaningful to say. And it's about amplifying perspectives that have too often been overlooked or underrepresented.

That's why our work takes different forms.

We INITIATE stories.

We INVEST in storytellers.

We create IMPACT by helping courageous work reach the people and communities who need to experience it.

Different branches. One shared purpose.

To help bring more of the human experience into view. We believe when more people have the opportunity to tell their stories we don't just change what we see on screen...

We shift the way we see one another.

That's the work we'll always believe is worth doing. Stick around there are more stories to be told with Lagralane.
