Ok so conor did help me empty and clear the space…otherwise I was never gonna make it in 48 hours 🫣😂. But then he stayed away and loved his present when he saw it last week when it was his birthday 🎁 🌱🎉

For the eager reader 🤓:
We have been looking at this little old derelict barn for so many years itching to do something with it.
we are unsure if it predates the main house as it could have been a dwelling at some point in time. There are tiny windows either side and markings of what appears to have been a chimney stack once.
We know that in the 60s, 70s and 80s it was used as a grain and hay store for the farm, but then it fell into disrepair and eventually lost the roof.
We know that it had full planning permission in the late 90s to be turned in a two storey two bed bedroom cottage.

If money was no object we would renovate it and turn it into a pool house with an exercising pool. Wouldn’t it be so amazing to be able to go for a swim every morning in a 200+ year old barn?
…but nope - we have yet to plant a money tree - maybe the new potting shed will help 🤭😆💸🌱

Every year we put more trees into our little field. The long term idea is to create a wild park 🤞. A wonderful place to go for a stroll and hopefully make it a little heaven for wildlife and biodiversity.
And every year there are some trees that don’t make it down in the ground during planting season and others get repotted or propagated…and all these plants have been standing around the out buildings. I counted that conor has accumulated about 50 trees and plants waiting to go down. Oaks, Scot’s Pine, Acers, Rowans and list go on and on.

AFTER ↔️ BEFORE

Finally the obligatory yearly ‘cherry-blossom’ post… I know you have all sat at the end of your seats for weeks waiting for this post…here it is - it will be gone with one huff and puff of wind 🌸🌸🌸🫣😜🤣

For the eager reader 🤓:
Man, we made it to the other side…actually this winter didn’t feel too bad for me. We have both been so busy with work, other projects throughout winter and kept our spirits high with many great gatherings of friends and families, theatre, concerts, gigs and club nights. 🕺
What’s not to love?

Having said that though i am delighted that we can finally call it SPRING and the whole garden is coming alive with the return of the sun.

We have an ambitious long list of projects planned for this year and no doubt at the end of the year we will laugh at what we will be able to cross off the list, but you gotta love an optimist, right?

Projects include: two bathrooms, a bedroom, a load of painting, an garden sauna, a lake (read pond😜), more tree planting (we counted over 60 was planted in 2025💪🌱), lights on outbuildings, a fence…I mean that’s just some projects 🤣😅🫣

So I took one look at the Christmas boxes last week and thought to myself “feck it…see ya in 2026”
Anyone else who doesn’t have time to decorate??

For the eager reader 🤓:
It is so cosy with a roaring fire, Wham blaring and a little red moustache of mulled wine while decorating and getting the house ready for the festive season…but also equally super boring and depressing on a wet grey January day to take it all down again.
So this year we kind of decided to skip the decorating part.
But i can only be the grinch for so long. Yesterday I snug up to the shed to make two wreaths for the gate.

Who knows if the mulled wine will get the better of me this weekend and force me to open the Christmas boxes…just a little…tiny bit 🫣🤪🎄

A little snippet of the seaside cottage we renovated last year.

As the house had been empty for years and my guess would be it’s been decades since it was last decorated, it was time for a serious update.
Like every room in the cottage the bathroom is also a small space but we really wanted it not to feel too cramped.
The tiles have sandy tones and the wooden beam and the antique vanity gave it some extra warmth.
For fittings we wanted it modern yet understated so simple black lines and a brass tap for the sink.

The reeded glass door gives plenty of privacy but also allows light into the rather dark hallway.
The old brass doorknobs were leftovers from our own house

Some projects just take longer to finish…like the pantry.
Or ‘Rough Kitchen’ as we call it in danish (“grovkøkken”)

For the eager reader 🤓:
The pantry was always in our plans but just low on the priority list so since 2020 sockets have just hung out from the wall and we have tried to keep it styled in a way we could somewhat use it, but truth be told it always just ended up being a dumping ground for all the random shite we didn’t know where to put or was moving from A to B…and then got stuck in the vortex of the not-yet-pantry-space 😂
January 2024 I finally bought a kitchen from IKEA, which then lived in our dining room for another 6month until we faced the relationship test of putting it together to install it.
Last week I finally finished tiling the splash back and inside the vitrines and I’m so pleased that we can almost tick that room of the list. All that is left to do is to get a plumber to connect the tap and we are completely finito!

The idea behind the pantry is that it works around the same theme as the kitchen. The kitchen is oak wood with black granite worktops…and for the pantry I flipped it so the kitchen is black with an oak worktop. We used the same milky white tiles in both places by @ceramicavogue from @tilestyle

Will it be a ‘rough kitchen’??…no not really…as it faces the terrace and the afternoon sun, we made a quick decision to use it as a bar 😂
And this weekend in the heat it got used a fair bit 🍸🍹

As we moved from England in 2017 I had just set up a new adventure working with interior design after many years working as style editor in the fashion industry. It all happened very organically as I started getting phone calls after our house had been featured in a magazine. Calls from people who wanted me to help them with their projects.

And when life throws you a curveball you sometimes have to jump into the deep end and so I did. I spend years learning about constructions, electricity and plumbing plans, insulation and green energy, optimised layout solutions and creating stylish and contemporary spaces with modern comfort.

For years now I have been back and forth to England where most of my clients are based and with all the work we had set ourselves up with when we bought this old Georgian house in the Irish hills of Waterford time has just flown by.

Soon I’m off to Denmark to install another exciting job, so here is to hoping that there will be equally exciting clients to come in Ireland 🇮🇪

I had the absolute pleasure of a sneak preview of the most stunning boutique hotel THE HAT MAKER which is just about to set wings and take all tourists by storm.

A 16 room luxury hotel with the cutest little wine bar and the most elegant maximalist interior with prints, colours, patterns, textile, fittings, tiles and the list goes in and on. (One more mention…amazing artwork all over the whole building)😍🎨

This is not paid advertising - our close friends spend the last 5 years planning and building this little fairytale boutique hotel and we are just so proud and happy that all their insane hard work have paid off.

I hope whoever sees this reel puts THE HAT MAKER in Dungarvan on their bucket list.

🚨 ‼️ Time for an update ‼️🚨
Soon we will be starting the redo of our en-suite bathroom.

For the eager reader 🤓:
I love this bathroom 🖤🤍 and I am not one for decorating to entertain myself or others 😵‍💫😂 but a long story short.
Shortly after we installed this bathroom we started to have a tiny tiny leak down into the lounge below.
Very little and only sometimes after a shower. We had several professionals to look at it and no one could find the fault. The only way forward was to strip it and start again.
Now back in 2018 this was the only functional bathroom in the house (read I guess not so functional…) but living in a building site meant we could not face more trips in the evenings to shower elsewhere, so we made the call to live with the little phantom drips until we where ready to go at it again.

Stupidly that went on for years and finally one morning last year I stepped through a tile coming out of the shower. The ply sub floor had simple disintegrated and collapsed. So here we are full circle…back to where we started and will now have to re-do the bathroom. We are hoping to hopefully only redo the shower area and source the same marble tiles but time will tell.

On an upside to having to have to do this: and let this be word of advice; we get to get rid of the Moroccan clay tiles in the shower.
Don’t get me wrong I love the look of them and I had so much fun designing the ‘star’ shower BUT these tiles should never be placed in a shower. Even though they are fully sealed and looked after they look so dirty all the time. Trouble is you can’t use normal cleaning products on them and hot water and soap doesn’t really do the job. Also this exposed shower tap is a right little collector of dirt and difficult to keep clean. I love the look but I also love to clean less… so we are going with a different system next.

So two things to take away from this:
1) if something leaks (even a tiny but) FIX IT asap
2) don’t use painted clay tiles in your shower.
3) always buy extra tiles to a project and store them in your attic just in case

This turned out to be bit of a pointy finger post 😂

Magnolia love 🫶

Magnolias are some moody plants… not knowing anything about anything green when we first moved to the countryside, we were told that magnolias can take up to 5 years to decide if they are happy with their position before they start to bloom (or not…so Jane Austen dramatic)

I’m happy to say that the sticks we put in the ground 6 years ago have turned out to be ‘ happy’ magnolias and are giving the gardens a great show of big flowers this year.

This weekend I am stuck in the shed as we ordered materials and I’m building an actual work area…possibly a few years too late some evil tongues might say - but hey rather late than never.
Also if anyone saw the story of the mess in the shed you will understand why we need to get it under control 😜😂
