It is so surreal holding this in my hands!!! Friends you know how excited I’ve been about this edition of Mergoat Magazine (@mergoat.mag), which I was so incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to illustrate. I’ve looked up to the work that Sorrel and Hazel are doing with this project for a long time and have learned a great deal from them. This is Mergoat Magazine Vol.2 No.2, Dissembling the Split Rail. Please please check it out, support their team, & consider grabbing a copy of your own. I’m honored to have my art among the gorgeous work of @ryanmccow (who did the cover!), @jaredhamiltonvisuals , @julieraepowers and so many others. Huge thank you to @saltywhistler for their design work and guidance!! by @lain.303

⭐️⭐️⭐️ new linocut that I made in the midst of finals season, popped this out in one night!!!!! Ah!!!!! Really enjoying trying to be more intuitive with my art and trusting the decisions I make. I learned so much with this piece and loved experimenting with environment more wow!!! Maybe a sister piece of sorts with the large lions print but I love seeing the improvement from that one to this.

Documenting a part of my process that doesn’t always get shown on this account - lately I’ve been doing drawings in pen for practically all of my lineart. Sometimes I’ll scan and manipulate the images digitally, like when I’m making a zine I’ll write out all the text by hand. Sometimes it’s messy and out of order because it’s often very stream of conscious. Trying to get better at hatching and drawing from observation and sitting outside in the woods and looking at trees :)

A lot of my work looks like this, and doesn’t end up getting posted on this account because it’s less polished or whatever, but maybe I should change that. To see more of those pen drawings, feel free to follow @lain.gar. Happy new year loves. by @lain.303
