Before you pick cabinets, give your kitchen remodel 30 minutes.

These 7 decisions help you turn saved inspiration into a clear first project brief:

1. What should the room do better?
2. What stays, and what might move?
3. What do your cabinets need?
4. Which surfaces should work together?
5. Where does the project stop?
6. What investment feels comfortable?
7. What must happen before work starts?

Set a timer. Answer the prompt on each slide. Then copy the brief on slide 9 into your Notes app.

You do not need exact measurements or final finishes to start. This is a starting brief for a contractor conversation, not a finished design or construction estimate.

Save this for planning night. Share it with whoever is making the decisions with you.

The full worksheet is on our blog at lakeandoakco.com/blog. Look for “7 Decisions That Give You a Clear Kitchen Remodel Plan in 30 Minutes.”

Transforming an underused lower-level space into a dedicated home gym is one of the most effective ways to add value and function to your residence.

This recent buildout in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood features custom glass wall partitions with sleek black framing, providing an open, airy feel while maintaining separation.
Paired with high-performance, durable rubber flooring, the space is now a professional-grade environment for daily workouts.

At Lake & Oak Co., we manage the complex sequence of trade coordination, from structural glass installation to specialty flooring, under one project lead.

If you have an unfinished or underutilized basement, let’s discuss how to reclaim that square footage.

A basement water problem turned out to be more than just a leak. 💧

We opened up the floor, exposed the damaged sewer line, and replaced the problem section with new PVC piping.

Sometimes the real problem is hiding underneath the concrete.

Chicago, your roof is the one thing you can’t put off. 🏠

Full tear-off, right down to the bare deck - because going over old shingles just hides what’s underneath. New architectural shingles, new chimney flashing, the skylight reflashed into the new field, fresh vent boots, ridge cap to finish.
A roof isn’t one trade either.
It’s tear-off and haul-away, deck inspection, flashing, ventilation, and finish work - sequenced right, or you find out the hard way in the first real storm.

One quote covering the whole scope.
One project lead who answers the phone.
One warranty standing behind it.

Same model whether it’s a roof, a bath, or a whole Chicago gut reno.

A shower curtain is a placeholder. 🚿

Swipe: this Chicago bath had good bones — clean subway tile, solid tub — and a vinyl curtain on a rod doing the work of a real enclosure. Pull the curtain off and you see the problem: one panel, and an open gap where water goes wherever it wants.

Now it's a proper sliding glass enclosure. Chrome track, two panels, towel bar built in. Same tub, same tile — completely different bathroom to stand in every morning.

This is a one-day job. It's also the kind of thing people live with for years because they're not sure who to call for something this size. That's the whole point of one number: the small stuff gets the same process as a gut reno. One quote. One project lead. One warranty.

Got a shower door, vanity, or a short list you keep putting off? Call or text (312) 798-9808.

Small job, same standard. 🚪 (sound on 🔊)

You saw this doorway last week — here's the swap in motion. One tired white door on a Chicago brick entry, out. One new full-view storm door — measured, installed, and sealed — in.

Here's what most people don't expect: we run a single-door job the same way we run a full Chicago gut reno. One quote. One project lead. One warranty. The scope changes; the standard doesn't.

Got a storm door, steel door, or a list of small fixes you've been putting off? Call or text (312) 798-9808 — one number, whatever the size.

We made a little film about a big headache. 🎬 (Sound on 🔊)

If you've ever fixed up a house in Chicagoland, you know the drill — five contractors, three quotes, and somehow you're the one running the schedule.

We built Lake & Oak to work the way it should: one project lead you'll know by name, backed by a vetted network of trusted specialists. HVAC, roofing, baths, paint, floors, trim — all coordinated under one plan. One clear quote. One warranty. We own the outcome.

No job too small for one point of contact. 🚪

A storm door install isn't a "big reno." It's also exactly the kind of thing that sits on a to-do list for a year — because who do you even call for a one-door job?

Us. Same process as a full remodel, scaled down: one quote, one scheduled visit, one warranty on the work. The new storm door went in clean — matched to the dark trim, screen ready for summer air.

Got a storm door, steel door, or a handful of small fixes you've been putting off? Call or text (312) 798-9808 — one number, whatever the size.

Cracked to smooth — Country Club Hills. 🚧

You saw the photos earlier this month; here's the teardown in motion. Demo, haul-off, grading, and fresh asphalt — sequenced over two days, because a driveway isn't one job. It's four, in the right order.

The homeowner made one call, not five. One quote covered it all. One project lead ran the sequence. One warranty stands behind it.
