Third year in a row participating at the Carrera de Catrinas @carreradelascatrinas carreradelascatrinas and it is always a fun time! A special thank you to the organizers: -Hispanic Chamber of the Lakes -Dementes Run Club (@dementesrunclub) -Casa de la Cultura 📍 Round Lake Park, IL Congratulations to the winners, finishers, first-timers, and those obtaining a PR (Personal Record). Oh and I can’t forget the cheering squads (aka: family, friends and neighbors) that stepped out to cheer along the route! At the end, we had a beautiful medal 🥉, a tamale 🫔 and champurrado ☕️ to celebrate with along with music and ballet folklorico. It was a day to gather and commemorate those that have passed before us and doing it so in community! Until next year! Gracias! . . . #Run #Walk #5K #CarreradeCatrinas #RoundLake by @lakecountygal
One of my favorite events and weeks for Dia de Muertos/Dia de Los Muertos festivities. 📍Highland Park, IL @DDMWeekHP October 24 - November 2 Here is what it is, taken from their website and I concur: “Día de los Muertos Week is more than a celebration — it’s a movement that honors memory, uplifts culture, and strengthens community. What began as a neighborhood initiative has grown into a collective effort that unites residents, artists, and local businesses through shared creativity and purpose.” There are still a few more days to take part of this celebration that honors memory and culture. FRIDAY Friday, October 30 Mexican Hot Chocolate & Pan @PixcaHighlandPark 5PM - 6PM Friday, October 30 Family Movie Night Coco The Art Center Highland Park 6PM - 8PM @theArtCenterHP SATURDAY Saturday, October 31 Dia de Los Muertos: Recorrido Familiar Bilingüe “La Ofrenda” 10:30AM - 11:30AM Highland Park Public Library @HPLibrary SUNDAY Sunday, November 1 Closing Celebration & Community Ofrenda 3PM - 5PM Memorial Park . . . #HighlandPark #DiadeMuertos #DiadelosMuertos #DayoftheDead by @lakecountygal

Night of 1,000 Jack-o-Lanterns 🎃 @chicagobotanic for its final weekend. 📍 Glencoe, IL The Monarch Skull by artist Alysa Gamson was a piece I was looking forward to viewing. This along with the full moon backdrop, made it shine. Now, looking forward to their next installation “Lightscape” for the holidays. #jackolantern #pumpkinseason #event #pumpkin #halloween by @lakecountygal

Our last Oktoberfest of the year was spent at @gortoncenterlf in #LakeForest. 📍 Lake Forest, IL Aside from traditional music, food, drinks and fun, it is also a fundraiser for the Gorton Center. The Gorton Center is a vibrant nonprofit community and cultural arts hub which hosts film screenings, live performances, and community events throughout the year. They also have classes available, so be sure to give them a follow or visit their website to find out more about their programs and events! If you missed their Oktoberfest, don’t miss out on visiting them throughout the year! Sunday was spent cheering on @chimarathon participants. So many people cheering on the racers. I even lost part of my voice from cheering 📣 It was also great to go and support a few people that I know. Although I didn’t get to see all of them, it was great to cheer on someone during the race. This was between mile 14 and 15 roughly, next to Union Station. If you haven’t been a spectator, I recommend it! It’s an easy train ride from the ‘burbs and you don’t have to go far to be a part of it! Family and kiddo friendly as witnessed from the second video. The family next to me were cheering on a couple of runners and one being their mom but those little girls were cheering for everyone telling them what a great job they were doing 🥹 It’s fun and inspiring! Be sure to add it to your plans next year OR go on and cheer at a local 5K or other race, the participants will appreciate it! Congratulations to all the participants!! You did that!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 by @lakecountygal
One thing about marathons in urban areas, sometimes daily life continues and you’ll have to be ready for some obstacles along the way. Frogger anyone? Also, before taping, some of us were about to help the individual with luggage and make way for the runners but one of the volunteers helped him out. I’m sure it’s not expected but if you ever have to cross the street, be prepared. #Chicago #ChicagoMarathon #Marathons by @lakecountygal
Last night I had the honor of attending a special Gala hosted by Hope Elevation Project for community members that are committed and passionate about helping others and that often go unrecognized - they are our community heroes. There were 28 recipients out of dozens of nominations and all deserving of the award for their contributions - they truly inspire! Two of my radio colleagues were awarded, Jose Rodriguez & Juan Carlos Arenas, and I am so proud to call them my friends. They truly help and support others so selflessly and have done so for many years. They truly elevate others! Congratulations to them both! I couldn’t take a photo with both and missed taking one with Jose but I was able to take one with Juan. There are so many others I wish to congratulate like Myra, Oscar and Angel that I have gotten to know throughout the years. A special note of gratitude to Betsy, Guadalupe, the team and volunteers at Hope Elevation Project for organizing such a beautiful awards celebration. They too are deserving of recognition for elevating others! Congratulations to all the awardees!! Felicidades a todos! by @lakecountygal
