My philosophy in a nutshell. Celebrating Diversity through Food. Love to all. 💃🏻🌷🙏💗❤️🍷💃🏻🌷 by @lalehstable

THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, SHOP SMALL. SUPPORT LOCAL. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

As the holiday season approaches, I want to take a moment to share something that is very close to my heart.

Behind every small business is a dream. Behind every product is someone’s hard work, countless hours, sacrifices, passion, and a whole lot of love.

When you shop at a small business, you’re doing so much more than making a purchase. You’re supporting a family, helping someone pursue a dream, keeping creativity alive, strengthening your local community, and helping entrepreneurs continue doing what they love.

For those of us who have built something from the ground up, every single order, recommendation, share, comment, and word of encouragement means more than you may ever know.

As many of you know, Laleh’s Table is a labor of love. My cookbooks represent years of recipes, family traditions, cultural stories, creativity, and my passion for bringing people together through food. Every book holds a little piece of my heart and heritage.

This holiday season, I invite you to consider giving something meaningful. Instead of always turning to big retailers, explore the wonderful small businesses in your community. Shop local, support independent artists, authors, makers, restaurants, and entrepreneurs.

And if you would like to support my journey, my cookbooks make wonderful holiday gifts for family, friends, food lovers, and anyone who enjoys exploring cultures through food.

Day 70 of Journey Together:
PIZZA!

One of the greatest creations known to mankind. At least, I think so! But seriously, who doesn’t like pizza?
A crispy crust, freshly made sauce, fresh mozzarella, fragrant basil, juicy heirloom tomatoes, a sprinkle of spices, and voilà… Margherita heaven!

Pizza actually has a fascinating history. Its roots go back thousands of years to ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Persia, Greece, and throughout the Middle East, where people prepared flatbreads topped with herbs, spices, oils, cheeses, and other delicious ingredients.

During the centuries of the Ottoman Empire, savory topped flatbreads were enjoyed throughout its vast territories. One wonderful example is Lahmacun, a thin flatbread traditionally topped with seasoned minced meat, tomatoes, herbs, and spices. Sound familiar? The idea of putting delicious ingredients on baked dough certainly goes way back!

Meanwhile, in Naples, Italy, these flatbread traditions evolved into what we recognize today as modern pizza. By the 18th century, Neapolitan street vendors were serving flatbreads topped with tomatoes. In 1889, the famous Margherita pizza was created in honor of Queen Margherita, featuring the colors of the Italian flag: red tomatoes, white mozzarella, and green basil.

Italian immigrants eventually carried pizza across the ocean to America, where it developed into countless regional styles and became a worldwide favorite.

Today, pizza comes in more varieties than we can count. Thin crust, thick crust, deep dish, stuffed crust, Neapolitan, Sicilian, New York style, Chicago style, Detroit style, and even cauliflower and gluten-free crusts.
