Smudging is the ritualistic burning of herbs & plants in an Abalone Shell or clay bowl while prayers of gratitude & wellbeing are said aloud. Native Americans have used smudging for centuries to wash away impurities, sadness, anxieties, dark thoughts & any unwanted negative energy or emotions that may be clinging to a space or individual. The sage smoke is traditionally fanned over a person or throughout a space using feathers, which are believed to have healing powers. In the ritual of smudging, all the elements are represented. The feathers represent air, the herbs represent Earth, the burning of the herbs represent fire & the abalone shell represents water
