Most people just walk straight through the Poplar tunnel without thinking about it.But if you stop for a minute, you start to see how everything lines up the curves, the lights, the way people fall into the frame without realising it. That’s where the geometry works. by @lamberts.lens

Most people edit for colour. I edit for attention.Every adjustment in this image has one purpose: guiding your eye towards St Paul’s Cathedral.1. Basic adjustments brought back the highlights and introduced more contrast whilst cooling the image slightly for a cinematic feel.2. Colour grading was used to separate the cool blues of the scene from the warm tones of the city lights to create colour contrast.3. I darkened the area behind the boat so it doesn’t blend into the background and immediately becomes more noticeable.4. The brightest areas of the foreground were selectively brightened to add depth and create contrast against the darker shadows.5. The sky was darkened to make St Paul’s stand out even more and become the visual anchor of the image.6. I added a subtle glow around St Paul’s to naturally pull the viewer’s eye towards the main subject.7. Finally, I darkened the person in the foreground so they support the composition rather than compete with it.Editing isn’t about making everything brighter, sharper or more saturated. This is one of my favourite views of Canary Wharf. I waited for the DLR to line up with the motorway traffic while the sky reached peak colour.Photography tip: Leading lines become much stronger when they guide the eye to more than one subject. I came back to Nelson’s Staircase more than once before leaving with these shots.The architecture was always there, but the photos weren’t.It wasn’t until the light, the composition and the people all lined up that the images finally felt complete.📸 Photography tip: Build your composition first, then wait. Don’t chase people around your frame. Find the composition you love and let someone naturally walk into the scene. This incredible staircase is a perfect example of how strong composition can transform an ordinary scene into something cinematic.📍 One composition tip I always use:Find curves that naturally lead the eye to a subject.In this image, the sweeping staircase acts as a leading line, guiding your eye straight to the person.
