Six months ago the NFL reached out regarding a project. I sent my proposal in and within days I was selected. I was selected as the Visual Artist to work in collaboration with the @nfl to design the Super Bowl LVII ticket for this upcoming SuperBowl Here in Phoenix, AZ. (Akimel O’ODHAM JEVED)

I cried as I got the call. I was overwhelmed with emotions and seen a quick glimpse of alll the hard work I have done to get here. I am so proud of myself and I absolutely deserve this! I AM THE FIRST XICANA, NATIVE AMERICAN and WOMAN to have worked, design and paint the SUPER ticket in HISTORY!!!! Fun Fact! What normally would have taken me a month I did in 14 days!!

I reassure you this! I did not do this alone. Physically or spiritually. I want to thank Creator first, my ancestors, and my spirit guide for teaching and guiding me on this path!

I want to THANK the Phoenix ART Community! I want to acknowledge and Thank my Friend Monique Sanderson-Mata who we lost last year! For introducing me to so many of you in my early years. I definitely felt her around. I want to thank RAZA and My Native Relatives 🙏🏾💜 For allllllll your support world WIDE!

I want to thank my Manager Joe for allllll these years! I want to thank my team!! Mango Skies!! @mangoskiesfilms And my good friend Amson @ukh_nia for helping me reconnect and teaching me the O’Odham Ways. Most of my inspiration for this painting has be men by being out in the LAND.

I’m literally in awe right now and I’m already seeing and feeling the ripple effect from this experience and hope to continue to inspire so many of you.
Stay tuned there is still more to come! Gracias!! SI SE PUEDE!! A’ho!!!!

I am not trying to be the best. I just want to do Art that I am most proud of. Art that gives Hope. Art that makes you feel seen and Art that reclaims space for our Beautiful Brown faces.

This mural took me 10 days! 2 days of logistics and 8 paint days! Thanks to my son for the assistance we flew to the finish line!

✨ Lucinda "La Morena" Hinojos (@lamorena_art) made history in 2023 as the first-ever Native-American & Chicana artist commissioned to create official Super Bowl artwork. Her groundbreaking contribution was not only a milestone for herself, but also a powerful tribute to Indigenous communities in Arizona.

One of the greatest gifts is my Grandbabies. I loooove love having them any chance I can. I’m a kid at heart and play time is always necessary at Nanas.

Note: no one was hurt in the making of this video 😂 and yes I finished my painting at 4am in the morning! by @lamorena_art

++Proud to say this mural is now part of The @arizonastateuniversity Science Department Permanent Collection.++

Artist: Lucinda “La Morena” Hinojos

This painting explores the continuum of Indigenous science and engineering the deep roots of innovation that extend from our ancestors to our present and future. Inspired by the enduring ingenuity of the Hohokam canal systems that shaped the desert landscape, this work honors the original engineers of the Southwest, whose understanding of the land and water continues to guide us today.

In the middle of the painting, a hummingbird emerges as a messenger and guide, a symbol of resilience, adaptability, and connection to spirit. The hummingbird represents our ancestors leading the way, and about our path forward.

The colors include ASU and AZ sunset colors both the vibrancy of the Sonoran Desert and the brilliance of Indigenous knowledge systems that have always integrated science, culture, and environment. The composition ties the past, present, and future together the ancient waterways flowing toward contemporary innovation and onward to new horizons shaped by Indigenous students and communities continuing this legacy of creation and sustainability.

Ultimately, this piece is a celebration of continuity a reminder that Indigenous science and engineering are not relics of the past, but living practices still shaping our collective future.

Here is a mural I did for @altaavondaleapts here in my own city! Avondale, AZ. They wanted some bright colors for the patio gaming to give it life. The wanted to incorporate story telling through my work so incorporate elements from the land I call home. Honoring the Akimel O’Odham tribe and the fields that are farm workers work in. I also incorporated our skyline Estrella Mountains. Hope you like it! Let me know what you think!

I had an ex that was embarrassed of my dancing. He literally told me “stop dancing” So for a few years… I stopped. Untill one day my best friend MO (Rip) sd “Luuuu DANCE”! So I danced. I never felt so free at that moment. This video makes me emotional because it shows you a completely different person from 10 years ago. I am a DV survivor and SA victim. I am not ashamed of my past nor embarrassed to share my story. I tell my story to educate and to inspire women. I rarely look back these days as I have made peace with my past and my abusers. Instead, I look forward at the beautiful life I have. I honor myself and the many women who finally had the courage to leave and I extend my love to the women who are there now and need the support. 💜
