Peccaries are pig-like mammals native to the Americas, belonging to their own family (Tayassuidae) and not true pigs (Suidae). They are social animals, often living in herds, and are known for their coarse hair, short snouts, and dagger-like canine teeth, which give them the nickname "javelina". Key differences from pigs include having three toes on their hind feet (four on front), a dorsal scent gland, and different teeth, with peccary canines pointing down.
