Miranda, she/her (25 y/o), Park Avenue • “This is one of my favorite outfits of the season! My knit sweater and corduroy pants are from Anthropologie through Nuuly, because yo girl is balling on a budget. I got my purse (broaches and all) from Vintage Fest in York. The bunny/otter embroidery was definitely the selling point for me. And, of course, I can’t go on a walk around the city without my platform crocs. They’re the perfect amount of ugly and obnoxious that sparks joy in my heart.
My style choices are all over the place. I typically prioritize comfort, both in the clothes themselves and how I wear them. I don’t force myself to wear clothes I’m not comfortable in. I like earth tones and fun materials, and I value clothes that make me feel confident in my body. On the other hand, I’m always on the lookout for unique statement pieces; however, they have to speak to me. I’m drawn to cool vintage pieces, things that your grandma donated, and funny/ugly/obnoxious pieces that simply work with who I am. Mirandahood is a spectrum, and I like to embody that.”

Katlyn, she/her (24 y/o), Tune Up Radio • “Top priority right now in most of my fits is comfortability so I can maintain the ability to boogie when I need to. If I don’t then my day could be bad bad bad. I never plan my outfits but I do have my go to combos when I’m in a rut. All black with some white and gray has been the ol stand by as of late. Almost 100% of my closet is second hand. I alter a lot of my own clothes to fit me the way I want. Most outfits do indeed see a pair of scissors before I walk out the door. No fabric is safe.
Tonight im wearing an off the shoulder top with a tank under neath. I love the lil squares on the shoulder it creates. I do wear black tights with the Hanes crew socks and Doc Marten Mary Jane’s on a very regular basis. I have a skort on top of that, but recently I’ve been loving wearing this one backwards so the lil shorts are in the front and keep em guessing in the back. Also it looks cooler when I boogie.”

Lucas, he/him (25 y/o), N. Queen Street • “I used to put a lot of thought and effort (and money) into my personal style and the way I decorate my appearance. I thought interesting clothes and jewelry made me a more interesting person, that by combining products I’ve purchased into an outfit I was creating something in a way that somehow added depth to my identity. But you can’t purchase your identity or your personality or your creativity. Sure, I’ll pick a shirt I like more instead of one I like less, but I want to avoid ever feeling like it’s more than just a shirt. I have a finite number of choices I can make in a day, and I’d like to limit the amount of them spent on the clothes I wear so I can spend more on creating the things I want to create.

Today you caught me on the way to dinner, more dressed up than usual. In the interest of simplifying I have one “nice” outfit; a brown linen suit made by a tailor in Shanghai named 张建平 (Zhang Jianping). Mr. Zhang was not pleased when I requested three buttons instead of the traditional two, but obliged.

Liv, she/her (24 y/o), N. Queen Street • “Right now I feel largely inspired by minimalism. I like the idea of owning mostly basics and making it interesting through jewelry, hair, belts, and other accessories; even tattoos. I’ve been playing around with all that stuff more recently. I’m trying to move more toward owning as few clothes as possible. Partly because I get really overwhelmed when choosing what to wear. But also because I think it’s really important to be aware of your consumption habits regarding fast fashion. I’d like to collect a wardrobe of just a handful of sustainably sourced items that will last a long time instead of lots of cheaply produced clothes that don’t hold up. It is so unfortunate that good quality clothing is not financially accessible for many people this days. That’s why thrift stores are so important.

Today, my dress, loafers, purse, and sunglasses are all thrifted. I DIYed my chunky pendant necklace with a chain from Etsy and a thrifted pendant; my other necklace is also DIYed from a very old, very dirty chain I found on the ground and a locket I got from a vintage jewelry seller here in Lancaster. My bracelet is also thrifted, and my rings are from all different places. Finally, my favorite accessory is the charm on my bag, which I made at The Bead Works!”

The earrings are the cool part. I like wearing stuff I find on the ground, or what other people have found/made for me. I’ve bought and had jewelery bought for me but it doesn’t hit the same. Otherwise, a hat my friend Ian gave me cus it looked dumb on their head, a fuckin corner store undershirt, some “$100” pants my friend gave me that I cut up right away, and some old tims my neighbor was gonna throw out.

Yeah I play weird folkish punkish songs about being a crazy person! There’s some stuff on the internets but the shows are better. I’ll be playing DLZ house like three times this summer. It’s all under “dog in a boy suit”.
