POSTS STORIES REELS

It's my favourite season, after christmas and spring and autumn, wrap-up season. I love seeing everyone's wrap-ups and reflections on the past year, so in proper fashion, these were my favourite books in this hectic year. I've read some mid books and some truly outstanding ones and I discovered quite a few new favourites and these are some of them.

And HA @sam_pvmind a post that finally made it out of the archives...

What were your top three reads this year? by @land.sp4ce

Babel, oh Babel

It's one of these books I find impossible to review, because of the sheer grandness of it. I don't know why I waited so long to read it, but I read it at the perfect time and it was made even more so by buddyreading it with @domis.reading and @sam_pvmind

(potential spoilers in the slides)

Babel is a piece of utter brilliance, there's so much in it and it will leave you feeling bleak and empty once you finish. You'll want to forget you've read it and go back to the first page all over again and it's definitely a book that will haunt you.

Rebecca Kuang's writing amazes me time and time again, by the amount of detail and research that went into this book and how she explores themes like colonialism, racism, elitism and resistance. She shows so many shades and it's disheartening and haunting to read and see it all build up. And then there's the language, oh, the way she wrote about languages, etymology and translation is incredible, sometimes it's difficult to fully grasp everything, but I loved it so much. It simply blows my mind. Babel is definitely not an easy read; it's terrible, but utterly brilliant and incredibly important and I'm haunted by it.

No review could ever do it justice, so in light of the buddyread, I wanted to share some excerpts from the Babel playlist we created, because it's not just the story and it's relevance, but the characters as well. Their friendship, their struggles and fights and the light in which they shine and this is what this is supposed to represent.

Songs are:

•school night chappell Roan
•all this and heaven to Florence + the machine
•less and less, matt maltese
•I gave you all Mumford and sons
•blood// water grandson
•heroes Peter gabriel version
•welcome home, son grandson
•babel Mumford and sons by @land.sp4ce

So here it is after all this time (4 months)
I don't think I'll ever do this series and its wonderful, wonderful characters justice, but I'll try. I'll do my very best, because rarely has a book series ever meant this much to me that I couldn't stop thinking about it, couldn't stop smiling and couldn't stop grieving.

So I just want to share that, I know many of you have read it and loved it as well, so this is a very small love letter to beartown by Frederik Backman. There's so much more I could say, I could write endless pages about each character, but I'll leave you with this.

And the biggest thanks to Salomé @sam_pvmind for helping me with the wonderful cover, because I had a near meltdown over it. Thank you <3
And to Domi and Maisie (@domis.reading @thestarlessmaisie ) all three of you made reading the winners so much more special! by @land.sp4ce

I love how everyone just unanimously calls it the end, even if it's just November – but hey it do be like that.
Some of these have been on this, or other lists before, which does not keep me from putting them on her again (ahem beloved ahem) maybe this time around will be the charm though.

What book do you want to prioritize before the year ends? by @land.sp4ce

I can't wait to be disgustingly pretentious about these.
Makes me want to grab a floor length wool coat, loafers, go back to wired headphones and listen to radiohead, start smoking and gaslight people while carrying around the brothers karamazov. 1.2k pages what was I thinking...
Anyways these are my reading plans for November the best fall month of all. by @land.sp4ce

Waiting on the second novel by an author for 2 years to finally see it revealed!! What a day!

I am so happy to finally see Margaret McDonald's second novel, her first one, Glasgow Boys, is one of my favorite reads and I am beyond excited to see what she has in store for us with the sunshine quarry, which sounds very much perfect in threading all the things I loved in Glasgow boys together.

Needless to say I can't wait for May!

So I think I was being clever, when it's just me rediscovering things I love – in this case mostly quiet novels that to me perfectly capture the conditions of being alive. It feels like I've lost the ability to write about them, so this is a meager excuse for what I wish I could say about each one of these books, but we'll get there.

It might also just be fall and the weather getting to me, but you bet I ordered the The Brothers Karamazov and almost some camus, to make the amateur existential experience perfect. And yes I couldn't resist putting Ethel Cain on this post.

If you do have an recommendations like these, please share them <3 by @land.sp4ce

Posting this mid October is definitely a choice, but one I can live with...

The book fair did its fair damage and I am now back to a living human being with some time to read and a severely damaged tbr. Hence the reduced plans for this month :)

It feels like such a long time, so does anyone have some recs? by @land.sp4ce

There's a book fair next week life is hell and this is what I did last month!
Two buddy reads, one travelling book ( it was atrocious) and I finally read Katabasis, which was my highlight. Exactly what I like in a book and I had so much fun with it!!

Signing off🫡 by @land.sp4ce

4 friends walked into a bar….

Yeah I don’t have a joke I just wanted to introduce this post showing off my friends & I’s different days. This is our take on the trend I first saw on TikTok where friends show snippets of their day by the hour.

Enjoy <3 by @land.sp4ce

I think we have a winner...
Issue is, I know exactly what the issue is: I have the books on my tbr and I have the books on my shelves. These are two separate lists...

What's the book you've head the longest without reading it? by @land.sp4ce

You bet your ass I'll enjoy these last days of summer, but I also have a really long tbr and a lot of books just waiting to be read in fall so and with dead beat being published I thought it was a good time!

Do you have any autumnal book recommendations? by @land.sp4ce
