Come spend a couple days with us in Natchez, Mississippi.

We started with pizza at @natchezbrew Natchez Brewing Company, then headed down to Natchez Under-the-Hill to watch the sun set over the river from the @underthehillsaloon Under-the-Hill Saloon. Two hundred years ago that little strip was known as the roughest spot on the whole Mississippi River. River pirates, gamblers, scoundrels of every variety. Mark Twain himself is said to have slept upstairs back when he was just a riverboat man named Samuel Clemens. So when you sit there watching that sunset, you’re sitting where generations of characters sat before you, and you can feel every bit of it.

Next morning it was breakfast at @thelittleeasynatchez The Little Easy, shopping around downtown, and lunch back Under-the-Hill at @thecamprestaurant The Camp with that big porch looking out over the river. Then @fatmamastamales Fat Mama’s, which is one of my favorite places anywhere, for hot tamales and boudin. If you’re not from here: Mississippi hot tamales are their own thing, smaller and spicier than what you might picture, simmered instead of steamed, a tradition the Delta’s been perfecting for over a hundred years. And boudin is a rice and pork sausage we love so much down here we claim it from our Louisiana neighbors right across the river. On the way out of town we stopped at @the_donut_shop_natchez The Donut Shop, and so should you.

That’s just a taste. There’s a whole lot more to explore, and our longer video that digs a little deeper into Natchez comes out on my YouTube channel, LandonTalksAlot, in the next few weeks.

Natchez is a place where a lot of history happened, the beautiful and the painful both, and it doesn’t hide from any of it. In that way it might be the most Mississippi place there is. We live in and around the past here all the time. And now we get to decide what happens in the future.

Last time I showed y’all where to eat in Chattanooga. Now let me show you what to do.

We went to Raccoon Mountain Caverns, Ruby Falls, and Lookout Mountain, and yes, I know those are the most obvious things you can do in Chattanooga. They’re obvious because they’re GREAT. I went to Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain as a kid and I’m happy to report the fairies and the whole Mother Goose world up there are still just as magical as I remembered.

Now the caves. Both are beautiful and the lighting in each one will take your breath away, but they’re two completely different experiences. Raccoon Mountain is smaller and more personal, and our guide Tristan taught me SO much about how caves form, the creatures that live down there, the whole cave biome, and how to protect it. Ruby Falls is the big tour, lots of people, and you go deep, deep underground to a waterfall you won’t believe, plus you learn the story of the people who found it. Do both. They’re both worth it.

NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY IS TOMORROW (7/19) AND YOU NEED TO MAKE MAYO ICE CREAM TO CELEBRATE.

Calm down and hear me out. Mayonnaise ice cream. I know. I know.

But listen, I found this Creamy No-Churn Mayo Ice Cream on @allrecipes. Yes- Mayonnaise. And yes, it DOES have to be Duke’s. This is Duke’s Country, after all…
