Dear Hockey,
I’d never had imagined I would be writing this so early but here I am. This was terrible to write but here it is. First, thank you… for all of it… the lessons I have learned, the memories I have made, the feeling of camaraderie on a team, the discipline it took to wake up at the ass crack of dawn before school in the middle of winter for practice, the coaches… even the ones I butted heads with over the years and to the great ones who treated me like a son. This sport has helped make me the man I am today. I also want to thank my parents for the countless hours and funds they put into my dream to play hockey. None of it goes unnoticed. I hope somewhere down the road I too will have the ability to coach my own son or daughter the game of hockey. From getting routed in a state championship and playing through an injured wrist in a section final. To getting into fist fights at practice and getting chewed out by my dad for forgetting my gloves for an away tournament. This sport has had its fair share of negative moments and hardships. But as I look back on it I wouldn’t change any part of it. Hockey has taught me how to advocate for myself, fight for what’s right even when nobody else sees it, help lead teams, build bonds with people that will last forever and most importantly make myself proud. Unfortunately my time to hang up the skates has come. It’s a bittersweet decision but I’m extremely excited to see where life brings me as complete my senior year of high school and go off to college at the University of Nebraska. So for the final time thank you hockey, and 13 out. by @landospice13
