POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hey! My name is Lane White. I wanted to introduce myself and share my story with my potential clients and partners.

Growing up in rural Ohio, I spent my summers doing manual labor for cash. I did some farming, commercial concrete, residential concrete, landscaping, asphalt, and other odd jobs here and there. Although I didn’t know it at the time (I never thought I’d end up in construction), these jobs were my initiation into the construction world.

I graduated college and got my MBA right after that. In 2019, I followed my wife to DC and got a job in banking. That didn’t last long though as the construction industry was calling me back! I was blessed to have been asked by college friends of mine to jump in with their waterproofing business in the early stages. We serviced residential homes with waterproofing issues. They had already set up Crawl Space Brothers across two locations along the east coast, and I headed up our DC, MD, and VA locations. I started out with just a truck and a storage unit and completed all sales and installs by myself. Built from there by hiring multiple crews and earning over 125 5-star reviews and eventually managed to successfully exit the business after getting bought out in 2023-24. I stayed with the company for about a year after that as a sales employee, before finding my way to Meridian Homes in Bethesda as a Project Manager by way of a cold email.

My unique skill set that I gained from many years of manual labor, and almost 5 years of operating my own business, where I handled everything from sales to installs to customer satisfaction to hiring/firing employees, will be felt in every single project I take on.

I know what makes a business successful, and my clients will feel that in every project I manage. I will treat every project like my own business, from start to finish. Everything from a simple kitchen renovation, all the way to a multimillion dollar custom home, will have the highest level of professionalism, communication, integrity, and intelligence needed to create a successful project.

If you can dream it, I can build it. Let’s build! taken in Bethesda, Maryland by @lanewhitebuild

Protect before you demo! One of the best steps to take before starting condo construction is guarding your sprinkler heads. A single accidental hit can trigger a full discharge, flood the unit (and your neighbors below), and shut the job down for days. If you’re on the 10th floor or higher, you can cause water damage to every single unit below you. Then you’re looking at down time, dealing with insurance, paying deductibles, fixing damage, and saving your reputation by writing apology letters and getting gifts to affected neighbors! (Ask me how I know so much about this process)

Sprinkler head guards are a small item and should always be included in the pre-demolition process like floor protection. taken in North Bethesda, Maryland by @lanewhitebuild

Two more details from a renovation.

The first: a chandelier that didn’t have a place in the new design. Too beautiful to toss, so we built it a wooden crate to keep it safe until it finds its next home.

The second: a boiler manifold, buried behind drywall for who knows how long. We could’ve buried it again, but every valve deserves easy access for the day it’s actually needed. The closet on the other side of that wall was the perfect spot for an access panel.

Not every detail is sexy and makes the “after” photos. But they’re the ones that make a house actually work for our clients. taken in Washington D. C. by @lanewhitebuild

Old homes come with character, and that often means uneven floors and ceilings. On a custom built in almost 20’ long, that can add up to several inches of height difference from one end to the other. It’s a challenge you just don’t run into with new construction.

Rather than fabricating the built in to match the slope (tricky when floor and ceiling are tilting in different directions), we typically feather the ceiling with drywall and mud instead. It gets you that seamless floor to ceiling look without the cost and complexity of additional fabrication, though even then, it usually takes a little extra mud work to get it just right.

Every project is different, and there’s rarely just one way to solve a problem like this. We weigh cost, timeline, and downstream effects before choosing a path, and we always loop in the design team along the way. Their vision is the whole point, and their input often shapes the best solution.

Condos rely on bulkheads to conceal HVAC, electrical, and sprinkler lines. Sometimes extra bulkheads get added just to create visual symmetry when cabinets aren’t custom built for the space, especially in the kitchen.

That’s why we start every preconstruction phase by opening these bulkheads up. It’s usually a one day process, but it gives our design team a real sense of what can be moved or eliminated altogether.

Condos also come with their own plumbing rules. Most buildings won’t let you relocate where stacks enter and exit a unit, which limits how much fixtures can shift.

Doing this exploratory work early means fewer surprises down the line, more accurate plans, tighter estimates, and a smoother renovation with no last minute change orders.

Brand new deadbolt in to replace the bulky dead one. The new one takes up less space and required some custom trim work to make it seem like it’s always been there. (Trim needs a second coat of paint)

Old commercial Wolf out, new Wolf cooktop in. Along with removing the old appliance, we also scraped away 20+ years of grease and gunk from the soapstone.

Now that this is set, we are waiting for our Millworkers to field measure the gap below the new appliance. We’ll have a custom panel made to match the rest of the kitchen, then painted the new color at the same time as the rest of the cabinets. Beautiful backsplash will be installed in between all of this too. taken in Georgetown by @lanewhitebuild

This historic renovation deserves nothing short of the best! Farrow & Ball stands out with their richer pigments, unique colors, and stunning finishes. This will make walls look more luxurious and less “plastic-ey”. We’re not just painting a wall, we’re creating a mood that guests can feel as soon as they walk in the room.

F&B comes at a premium price and often requires more coats. Something to be aware of as a builder as we get quotes from our subs. All necessary to achieve a finish worthy of a historic home in Georgetown.

Luckily, we have @walshbourkeinteriors on the project team and she has expertly selected the paints and handmade wallpapers. taken in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. by @lanewhitebuild

Accidents happen on job sites. No matter how prepared, how many years experience, or how good your subs are, you will eventually run into a situation like this rust stain.

Walking into a project of ours during demo, and I saw this line of rust that looks like someone may have laid a tool on the wool runner and didn’t see the stain it left. As you can see, just before they laid the protection down.

Last thing we want to do is panic clean and grab the first thing you have on sight. One of the major advantages of working for a builder with 40+ years in the game is his EXTENSIVE list of professionals. No matter the situation, he has someone that can help.

Rather than trying to quickly clean this myself, I called the owner of our carpet installation team who connected me to a local expert in cleaning and removing impossible stains from carpets. He was on site the next morning and quickly removed the stain. Easy!

Of course, our client was updated through the entire process. Open communication maintains trust. taken in Washington D. C. by @lanewhitebuild

Here’s a quick builders tip: When it comes to shower trim, consider PVC over wood. Even the best-built showers will drip water from the door and its users, and water can damage wood trim over time. PVC trim provides a durable, low-maintenance solution that prevents mold and rot. By focusing on these details, we ensure our builds remain in great shape with minimal upkeep.

And for those looking to splurge, a full glass enclosure with marble trim at the walls is a beautiful alternative. Although it does come with a higher price tag! taken in Rockville, Maryland by @lanewhitebuild
