we’re making a record y’all!!!!!

this next one will be called Roxalana Dunbar … in honor of my roots in west virginia and my love for appalachia. if u know, u know.

i have been blessed beyond measure with all of these folks. these guys all are such talented musicians and total salt of the earth. it’s been such a pleasure working with them, and i’m excited to do more of it.

i’ll keep you posted!

i have debated sharing this. i have gone back and forth. but i want to.

@reportingwithcarrie found one of my videos of riverside online and reached out to me to do this story. it was broadcasted state-wide on the anniversary of helene.

hurricane helene gave me a new life. i wasn’t ready to let go of my old one. i wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the way things were. but sometimes life is funny that way.

here’s a few things i want to say.
the storm was unfair. it was horrific. this place and the people that were here during that time will never be the same. i saw the most horrible things i’ve ever seen. i saw and shed more tears than i thought possible. i held strangers, and they held me. i lost my life, the way it was.
i will never get the pictures of wendy back. or my collection of thrift store paintings. or my favorite zip-up. i will never get to talk to some of my friends again. i will never be able to stand behind the the counter of the outpost and listen to the distant sound of a grateful dead cover band. i don’t live in an RV anymore. i thought that i would never recover from this loss. in my body or my mind. but … here are some things i got BECAUSE of the storm

my best friends @evan_veasey and @toriessex
THE LB BAND
a safe and beautiful place to live
an FJ cruiser
a home in the asheville music community
an incredible job teaching music
getting to guide on the new river
new thrift store paintings
a new asheville, that loves harder and more deeply than before.

i have to thank :
the yorks - my family forever. you saved my life.

that friend that i stayed with right after the storm @annathemagnificent … smoking on the porch with you for 5 days straight was my greatest pleasure. for you, hannah and dakota i would make 10,000 more cups of aeropress coffee and grind the beans by hand, one teaspoon at a time.

@zaqsquares for doing what he does best - bringing people together. thank you for pouring music into asheville after helene. thank you for giving me the gift of evan. you started my career and i promise you i’ll take it to the end. love you zaq.

@restringappalachia for replacing my instruments. i love you. you gave me my voice back.

and YOU!!!!! by @laney.barnett
