The first week of February, we celebrate NGWSD or National Girls and Women in Sports Day. As a female athlete, specifically in a sport that many people consider “is not a sport” this week is a big deal. I have been cheering for 10 years now and am now currently a coach, and it’s been both the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. There’s many ups and many downs, but in the end I’m still doing the thing that I love! I am so proud to be able to say that I am a female athlete, and not only that, but a student athlete as well. Many nights it’s hard to balance practices, school work, and my own mental well-being, but being apart of this sport and being surrounded by the people I love makes every hard day worth it. And to all the female athletes out there, I see you, and I’m proud of you!

“It well may be that we will never meet again, in this lifetime, so let me say before we part… so much of me is made of what I learned from you, you’ll be with me like a handprint in my heart. And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.”

This song describes in perfect example the week that I just had. Such a bittersweet feeling of spending the best week with the sweetest people I’ve ever met, and knowing now that it’s all over. ALAMGS was an experience I’ll never forget. Countless friendships I made that will last a lifetime, especially my sweet roommates and all of my people of Boone city. Boone will forever hold a place in my heart, because Boone city’s the place to be. I wish you all the best and please text me as you feel. I will miss this week for the rest of my life. ❤️ @ala.missourigirlsstate taken in Lindenwood University by @laneyasher
