This birthday month, I’m celebrating purpose, passion, and storytelling. For over 20 years, I’ve been blessed to write stories of hope, healing, and humor. What better way to begin the month than having The Last Letter and Three Days recognized at the LightReel Film Festival in Washington, DC?

“If you have kindness in your heart, you offer acts of kindness to touch the heart of others wherever you go…kindness becomes a way of life”. There are many nice people in the world, but truly kind souls are rare. Cousin (“Aunt”) Carolyn was one of those rare and beautiful spirits—not just to me, but to countless others whose lives she touched. I deeply aspire to follow her example, as she lived a life of constant service to others.
From the very first moment I remember her becoming part of our lives, she became a constant presence—through summer swimming adventures, A&W runs, debutante events, holiday stops, supporting my plays, heartfelt advice, cooking for me after surgery, listening to her and Mom talking on the phone for hours, and showing up time and time again during both of my parents’ illnesses. Her wisdom, support, and love were always generously shared. So many were blessed by the love of her and her family.
Her absence will be deeply felt by so many, but this isn’t goodbye for me. I believe that soon and very soon, the final trumpet will sound, the Lord will descend, and there will be a cry—and those who lived with kindness, who loved deeply, who believed—they will rise first. So I will see her again! #soonandverysoon #carolynparker #charlaparker-thompson #kindness by @lanisharpe
