text to magnet series part one of infinity (which means until I get bored). i’m a magnet collector and my fridge is a museum of all these wonderful places i’ve been or quotes i’ve loved or art I couldn’t help but buy at the gift shop. then I realized a lot of people in my life send me things I hold on the same pedestal as my beloved magnets. so I made those texts into magnets. that’s the whole story. special shoutout to my friend john who sent me “you have to be a vulnerable rock” which caused the start of this project, and also a shift in mindset to boot! ♥️ by @lara.creates

kiln unload 🐦‍⬛ some wall adornments and a tile (commission) that I am happy with. unloading days always genuinely feel like going to a casino to gamble (maybe that’s why I love pottery so much) because firing is temperamental and as much as you think you know what it’ll look like, you still get surprised.

will test the wall art at home before I make more but I really like how they came out. especially the mini altar, which will house my favorite pebble from a beach back home in Germany :) by @lara.creates

a non ceramics post - just been really into noticing color and patterns and moments more. I think I forget sometimes to look around nature to get inspired rather than through my screen. here’s some things I stopped to notice recently. by @lara.creates

so what’s the verdict? ugly or kinda hot? sometimes all you need on a 90 degree night is to play in some cold clay and make whatever the hell you wanna make without any rules. i hadn’t planned on keeping it but then I grew fond of my monster and now she’s an indoor cat. my candelabra is cooler than your candelabra!!! taken in Los Angeles, California by @lara.creates

making something for friends is always special, it’s even more special when it’s a wedding gift, and something they’ll use in a whole new chapter of life. here are some “blates” for madeline and JT! ❤️‍🔥 swipe to see the first meal in them and also some fun wedding photobooth pictures of me about 4 dirty martinis and three glasses of champagne deep.

made with b-mix clay, blue glaze inside, and mottled blue cream on the outside, cone 10. by @lara.creates

the making of my bowl hand sculpture floral arrangement vase situation has finally hit your feeds (I know you’ve been foaming at the mouth for it). this was a fun project even when it drove me up the wall! 🐸

of course inspiration came from lord of the rings (duh). I just really liked the idea of something reaching out from a dark and desolate place to grab onto something real and beautiful. that beauty can mean the hand of a loved one or in this case, some fresh flowers. thanks for listening :)

clay: laguna b mix
glaze: mayco stoneware night moth for the bowl and northern woods for the hand. by @lara.creates

i’ve been in awe of the japanese art of “ikebana” for quite a while and created a piece in the studio to start making my own ikebana inspired arrangements. there is so much to the art of this type of flower arranging and I cannot wait to dive into it and understand all of its beautiful rules and techniques.

I hope you like. listen to the end for a good Noodles meow (screech). 🖤 i’ll be posting a follow up video in the coming days of the making of my piece and what it means to me. note: cat is not usually permitted on table she just gets curious when I do something other than eat there lol, I wash my linens!!!

i’m potentially about to get sappy as fuck but who cares this is my instagram and you all have to deal with it. it’s been a rough fucking year. from losing my father, to having thyroid cancer (we are ok now !!), to facing down fears that my career as a cinematographer is too unstable, to troubles of the heart, to the general fuckin state of the world BLA BLA BLA. tough year. but art has been a constant balm for me. pottery especially. it’s wonderful warm feeling to know so many of my pieces are in the homes of people I love and it’s honestly gotten me through all the stormy days. all in all, incredibly grateful I get to make my weird art, and do it in a community setting full of people that light up my life. you know who you are. yay to making more things this year that come from all the uncomfortable sides of my soul!!

tldr: join a pottery studio, take an art class, or try a group sport idk. humans are pretty wonderful. by @lara.creates

it’s been a while, but i’m so back! I missed the studio and my friends dearly. was I the only one who had never heard of chili bowls before getting a commission for some?? is this a southern thing??? had fun working on something for myself too, any guesses as to what it’s gonna be?
