What a stunning weekend to celebrate the end of the school year and summer solstice with friends and family.

We rolled on to the ferry with a group of 10 bike campers.

Such a great way to enjoy nature without driving.

Thought I was prepared for the #urbanism in Seoul - but damn... I was not.

I could not believe the transformation since I was last there - over 20 years ago. I also wasn't expecting it to be as autocentric as it was...

Coming back to the US - where we just nibble around the edges, instead of creating lasting, transformational change - was a rough landing.

Seattle has created almost no new park space in 20 years - and our public realm is *incredibly* low quality.

It was amazing to see how creative insertions, massive and popular linear parks, and even some climate adaptation measures are creating opportunities for increased access to open space, a high quality public realm, all while improving livability. taken in Seoul, South Korea by @larchlab

One last Happy New Year from team Larch Lab!

2026 will be bringing some big changes to Larch Lab.

We're just scratching the surface on understanding how US building and zoning codes stifle better, more affordable, and more livable housing and neighborhoods.

A huge thank you to all who helped amplify my book, our work, and what we were trying to achieve. It has been an incredible journey. by @larchlab

Wow.

Four years after writing this report on Point Access Blocks/Single Stair buildings for the City of Vancouver - which kickstarted Larch Lab - Vancouver has legalized single stair buildings to 6 stories.

This also is what gave me the space to focus on code and land use reform, building better homes, and to write my book, Building For People. by @larchlab

Was so great to catch the @thewaroncars Life After Cars book talk with @nerd4cities at @townhall_seattle

The kiddos really enjoyed it - especially the Superman references from 1939!

Looking forward to diving into it this weekend. Congrats!

Headed to Portland to give a talk at @uoarchenv on how single stair buildings result in better housing, in more walkable and livable neighborhoods.

Rode my @bromptonbicycle to catch the train. Will be rolling from the station to lunch and the event.

Feels like a very fitting way to travel right now as we think about climate adaptation and low-carbon mobility. by @larchlab

After a long hot summer, it was good to get back into the woods again. To push myself. To enjoy the great outdoors.

A passing of the season - from stunning warm and dry days - to waking up on the last day to cool temps and lots of rain.

The Cascades really are incredible.

A recharge that was sorely needed.
