🏝️ 1st Annual 🚲 RIDE FOR ROLF 🚢(story below):
Rolf Neslund was a Norwegian Ship Pilot who resided on Lopez Island. A respected ship captain of the region with a string of bad luck. A man with a drinking problem on his 3rd marriage. He left his 1st wife for her younger sister. When that didn’t work out he married the housekeeper(Ruth). Ruth & Rolf loved to party. Their parties were infamous on Lopez. In June of 1978, Rolf famously crashed a freight ship into the West Seattle bridge. He was 80 years old. This set in motion Rolf’s retirement from his merchant mariner career (He is the reason we have the high bridge to West Seattle that we know now). Sometime after Rolf noticed a large sum of money missing from Ruth & Rolf’s joint account. His $80,000 pension. He went to confront Ruth. In the argument Ruth shot Rolf dead. She called her brother to help with Rolf’s body. Dragging Rolf’s lifeless body through the house to the master bathroom tub, hanging him up, chopping him up and out the back of a house to discard the remains in a burn barrel. This was Washington’s first “no-body” murder conviction. Ruth foolishly called her niece and confessed and after a dispute with her brother over a car he ratted her out. This was before DNA evidence, but with a sloppy clean up job in the house they were able to pin point where Rolf was shot by the blood splatter. Ruth served her time and remainder of her life In Purdy Women’s Correctional Facility. Despite Rolf’s misfortune late in life he had a great reputation in Lopez, as well as, in his industry as a top notch Ship Pilot. He was regarded as friendly and charismatic. This is why we Ride for Rolf. taken in Lopez Island, Washington by @largespicy

I still think about this sunset. Maybe the most intense one I ever witnessed. In the back of my mind I hope every sunset is this intense and beautiful. Regardless, when I find the time, I enjoy experiencing them. Each one is a unique and special time stamp of reflection and gratitude. Each one beautiful in their own way. Each one a reminder of what could be. 9/11/22 taken in Pier 62 by @largespicy

The night has arrived, and I’m ready
A good White Recluse is forging me
Always calm, I’m never on edge
I like making things happen, I never back down
Twenty-three and already moving up and down
I’m on the right path, I’ve always noticed
Good friends are the ones around me
Always loyal to those who helped me
Surrounded by luxury, not material things
My parents gave me a good life
My old man in heaven always guides me
