Dear Softball,

There’s so much to say, but somehow there still aren’t enough words to fully explain what this sport and journey have meant to me. For 19 years, softball has been my constant. Through every stage of my life, every version of myself, every high and every low… you were always there.
You gave me purpose before I even understood what that meant. You taught me discipline, resilience, sacrifice, confidence, and how to keep going when things felt impossible. You gave me teammates who became family, coaches who shaped me, and memories I will carry forever. You gave a little 4-year-old girl a dream, and now after 19 years, I have to say goodbye.
I don’t think people truly understand how hard it is to walk away from something that has been part of your identity for almost your entire life. This game became woven into who I am. But more than anything, I feel grateful. Grateful that God blessed me with something I loved this deeply, because not everyone gets to experience a passion so strong that leaving it feels like losing a piece of yourself.
UIC… thank you for changing my life. When I transferred in, I was broken in ways most couldn’t see and trying to figure out who I even was again. Somehow, God used this place to rebuild me. This program gave me a place to belong again, and somewhere along the way, it became home. I truly believe God led me here exactly when I needed it most.
And honestly, I don’t even know if I would know God the way I do if it wasn’t for softball. In the hardest seasons of my life, this game forced me to lean on Him when I had nothing left in myself. It humbled me, broke me down, built me back up, and reminded me that my identity was always bigger than the game.
Looking back now, I realize softball was never just about wins or losses. It was about every lesson, every setback, every blessing, and every person God placed in my life through it.
Softball, thank you for carrying me through childhood, college, and into adulthood. No matter where life takes me next, there will always be a part of me standing on a field somewhere, completely unaware of how fast it would all go.
I’ll love you forever.
