I will never stop smiling at babies across the room.I will never stop picking the pretty flowers.I will continue to love the color pink.I will continue to dream of becoming a mother.I will never stop searching for the good in this world, some days easier than others.Because while my world is forever changed, it is not destroyed.This is my new normal. Learning, healing, and fighting.For the rest of my life, I will be here.April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.To all the women, to all the girls, to all the men, and to all the boys—I believe the world is forever indebted to you.Sexual assault is cruel, sabotaging, inhumane, unjust, and so much more.It is violating. It is heartbreaking. It is something no person should ever have to carry.Sexual assault may be all of those things, but what it will never be is your fault.I will spend the rest of my life fighting for those who are a part of this month—for those who never come forward,for those who are too scared to come forward,and for all those in between.I debated posting this. When people hear “sexual assault,” they think of the victim. They think about what was done—but they rarely picture the evil that chose to do it.Posting this is not weakness. It is strength.Speaking up is not shameful. It is powerful.And advocating for those who can’t is something I will never stop doing. by @larkyncanady
