We have about a month to go before FSEA exhibition ends. Exhibit runs until February 15,2023 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. ☺️🙂

This was long overdue!😅
Sharing you my entry to the FSEA, my favorite Native Flower in our country, the Bombax ceiba, commonly known as Malabulak.
Aside from its striking beautiful red flower, one amazing thing about the species is that when the tree starts dropping its leaves (January to February), the flowers begin to appear (March to April)when the tree is leafless.

The first time I was introduced to the species is when a friend @celinemurillo_ asked me to do a cover up tattoo years ago. ☺️ Little did I know that I have already encountered (actually climb the tree even if the trunk is very prickly) the species on my climb to Mt. Maculot last 2017. I was really amazed by the unmatched beauty of the cup-sized flowers I saw along the trail. Climbing the tree was very challenging (I do not advise climbing one 😅)as I gained so many bruises and scratches. Hoping to see one again soon so I could take or document its different parts.

Really looking forward to do more botanical arts and illustration this year. To join more tree walks and knowledge-sharing activities about our native and endemics.
I’m super excited!

What’s your favorite native/endemic flora?

After months of hiatus, finally had the chance to post this illustration I did a year ago!

Did you know the Philippines is home to at least 16 species of sea snakes, including the endemic Lake Taal sea snake (Hydrophis semperi)? These remarkable marine reptiles are vital predators that help keep coral reef ecosystems healthy and balanced.

This illustration showcases the incredible diversity of Philippine sea snakes—from the striking blue-lipped sea krait to the elusive Belcher’s sea snake.

Bulbophyllum pelseri💚

Originally planned to render the species using watercolors but didn’t have enough time to do so. Still grateful that I was able to qualify and join TABA’s “Plantae Documentay 2026” exhibition. This was my second time participating for the event. The exhibition theme is Plants of the World and features 65 awesome works from different botanical artists around the world. How I wish I was able to attend the opening and other activities in Changhua, Taiwan.

The exhibition opened last February 06,2026 and will be until March 03,2026. Venue is at the Cheng Mei Gallery, No.60, Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Yongjing Township, Changhua County, Taiwan.

Thank you @anniebotanicalart and team for all your efforts and for beautifully curating the exhibition.🥰❤️ by @lars_dianco

Happy World Whale Day!🐋🐳

Sharing this Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) illustration, one of my most favorites and most drawn animal. ☺️💙

Let’s also support @balyena.org.ph because its the start of the humpback whale season in the Babuyan Marine Corridor.

BALYENA.ORG is a non-profit society established in 2013 that conducts research on whales and dolphins in the Philippines.
They conduct annual survey that helps us better understand whales. How they migrate, how they navigate these waters, and what they require to survive in a rapidly changing ocean environment. Protecting whales begins with truly understanding them. Their dedication helps in protecting the species and the area where they thrive. Through dedicated research of organization, strong collaboration, and active community support, we can help ensure that these gentle giants continue to visit Philippine waters for generations to come.

Happy #HornbillDay 🫶🏻☺️

Sharing this illustration of the 11 species of hornbills that can be found in the Philippines I made two years ago (finally had the energy to post it). The illustration was inspired by the display of the hornbills in the gallery 1 of the National Museum of Natural History.

Which hornbill is your favorite?

What should I illustrate next?

Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! 🦆

Sharing (before everything gets chaotic again) you the illustration I made way back 2024. The artwork was inspired by one of my visit at “Wawa” in Angono. A lot has changed since the last time I visited the place. Parts of it has been reclaimed because of some developments in the area. Hoping it won’t affect the species thriving in the area.

1. Common Kingfisher, 2. Rufous Night-heron,
3. Whiskered Tern,4. Collared Kingfisher,
5. Black-crowned Night-heron, 6. Philippine Duck,
7. Watercock, 8. Philippine Swamphen,
9.Striated Heron (juvenile),10. White-breasted Waterhen, 11. Common Moorhen

Happy New Year everyone!

Sharing this Kingfishers of the Philippines illustration I made three years ago ( yeah its been 3 years since I started doing this illustration).
Last year, I promised to be more active in posting my illustrations, but I think procrastination and laziness hit me hard. So, to start 2026 (and before things start to get busy and chaotic) I’m happy to share this 20 species illustration of one of my favorite group of birds. Hoping to be more productive this year in terms of doing and sharing my art.

Thank you sir @nam_siang and doc @migueldavid.deleon for letting me use your great photos in creating this illustration!

PS

Can you spot the frogs in the illustration?

Happy holidays everyone!⭐️🌟🤩

You don’t have to look up at the sky 🌠to see stars.Sharing you 26 species of Sea stars that can be found in the Philippines. Asteroidea are among the most diverse group of Echinoderms. The group name suggests that organisms under this group has a star form likeness/ appearance. Habitat ranges from shallow water like Proteroaster nodosus and as deep as 100-250 meters like the Churaumiastra hoshi.
They may not be shining and glowing like the real stars, but they are definitely and literally the “stars” under the sea!

How many stars would rate this illustration?
Any group of animal you want me to feature on my next illustrations?

The non-marine turtles of the Philippines!🐢

Finally had the energy to post this. A total of 10 species, three of which are invasive (Chinese Softshell Turtle, Painted Turtle and Red-eared slider), six are native (Philippine box turtle, Sunda box turtle, Asian Leaf Turtle, Spiny Turtle, Philippine Forest Turtle, Malayan Softshell Turtle and the Asian Giant Softshell Turtle).

This by far I can say was the illustration that I have been OC about especially when it comes to colors on test prints ( I think a total of 15 color and details revision 😅). Really had fun and stress doing this. Well yeah, hoping you like how it turned out. 🤓😅

What animals do you think I should feature next?
