At the Verbindingsweg in Hasselt, thieves tried to break in. Nothing was stolen.

Limburg is a photo series on seemingly trivial events in the most north-eastern Belgian province, based on short mundane articles from the regional section of the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. As these news stories were not accompanied by an image or used simple stock photos, new images were created. Large, timeless, and serene – often produced weeks, months, or even a year later

Light-hearted to announce that Limburg will be published in May 2025. This series began taking shape in 2019 with no preliminary deadline. After 6 years of cosplaying a local press photographer with way too large and ancient cameras, I’m happy to share these results.

Installation views of the exhibition Stilled Pictures in Tinnenpot.

My sincere gratitude to the filmmakers, visitors, volunteers and peers. Being able to see these images transpose from a matte glass to pellicule to in its turn to physical objects is still a magical experience that I was happy to share via this display.

Another special thanks to @objectsandsounds @steamywindowsbe and @julesmatooo for supporting this exhibition. And a big big hug for @flore_vs for coordinating the screening on the opening.

Stilled Pictures: In the movie industry, still images tend to be made for the posters of the movie or to communicate a glimpse to the public. While an image is limited by its blink-like characteristics, it gains in mystery and eeriness. This series of images documents the decors of student films dating from 2020. The sets that were documented were built and demolished in the period of 24 hours. Here again, the still image is able to capture the architecture that is now history, or embedded in the movie. by @larsduchateau
