As night settles over Napa Valley, Herbarium begins to reveal another side of the home.

From the outside, the residence glows like a lantern in the landscape. Inside, flowers preserved in glass catch the light above the living space, echoing the meadow beyond the windows.

We made a book about what is closest to our hearts. The art of glassmaking.

Lasvit: The Art of Bohemian Glassmaking is about where we come from, but also about how far we can go. About the artists and designers who dare to imagine the seemingly impossible, and the glassmakers who find a way to make it real. Because to us, keeping a centuries-old craft alive doesn't mean leaving it unchanged. It means having the courage to take it somewhere it has never been before.

Today would have marked Václav Havel’s 90th birthday.

To honor this anniversary we created a one-work exhibition in New York around a vase connected to Václav Havel — looking back at another, lesser-known chapter of Havel’s story, one that connects him directly to our glassworks.

For us, it became a symbol of something much bigger: the freedom to create, to travel, to share our culture and craft, and to be part of a global conversation.

None of this should ever be taken for granted. by @lasvitdesign

Millennium

The story of three vases unfolds in three parts. This is the second.

At the turn of the new millennium, Bořek Šípek, one of the founders of the Ajeto glassworks, now part of Lasvit, created Millennium for former Czech President Václav Havel. Years later, Havel returned the gesture with The Elusive Vase.

Conceived in 2000, Millennium captures the moment between two eras: one coming to an end, the other just beginning. The old vase is breaking apart, while a new one emerges from within.

The final chapter of the story belongs to the hands and lungs that gave Šípek’s vision its physical form. Master glassmaker Ivan Kubela brought many of Šípek’s designs to life and continues to work at our glassworks as a specialist to this day.
