Sometimes I feel anxious… like I can’t wait to have myself back.

For the past 3 years, I’ve basically been in the same cycle. Pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding.

& with this baby coming soon, I’m like… here we go again.

I already know I’ll be breastfeeding for the next year or two, Lord willing. I already know another season of being needed in that deep, constant, around the clock way is coming. And some days, the reality of that hits me hard.

I miss feeling like I belong fully to myself.

I miss the simplicity of not being needed in that way 24/7.

I miss feeling fully “back.”

I miss my energy. I miss sleeping comfortably. I miss feeling normal in my own skin. I miss not feeling ruled by hormones, cravings, exhaustion, tenderness, overstimulation, emotions, and all the invisible things mothers carry quietly.

& then there’s the guilt that tries to come with even admitting that.

Because I am grateful.

I am so deeply grateful.
I’m grateful I get to carry life.
I’m grateful I’ve been able to breastfeed.
I’m grateful my children have been nourished, comforted, and held close.
I’m grateful I get to experience motherhood in such a physical, intimate, sacrificial way.

But I’m also human.

You change. Your hormones shift. Your emotions feel bigger. Your patience feels thinner. Your mind feels full. Your heart is overflowing, but you are tired.

As Mother’s Day gets closer, I keep thinking about how much we carry that no one truly sees.

The pregnancies.
The postpartum healing.
The Breastfeeding.
The Sleepless nights.
The changes.
The hormones.
The tears in the bathroom.
The joy.
The guilt.
The gratitude.
The quiet sacrifices.
The way we keep showing up even when we feel stretched past ourselves.

Motherhood is beautiful, but it is not light.

I have been my babies’ first home.
Their comfort.
Their nourishment.
Their safety.
Their beginning.

So when the anxious thoughts come,
I’m reminding myself:

It is a season my babies will only need once.

One day, I’ll feel like myself again in a new way. But I’ll never be this exact version of their mama again.

& by the grace of God, I’m learning to honor both.
