15 locals deep, hundreds of members present representing thousands more, volunteer-run and member-funded. This year’s assembly was a huge success, as we affirmed the 8 pillars that make the locals of our union strong. Every day, we’re meeting somewhere in the city, building an organization in the territories of our neighborhoods that wages fights related to housing to keep people in their homes—and beyond housing, on issues such as traffic safety, neighborhood cleanliness, feeding people, and building long-lasting bonds through culture, celebration, and community. We are economically independent, beholden only to the working-class tenants of the city, building a popular democracy that responds directly to their needs and takes direct action to solve the crises we face. Con 15 locales y una fuerza de cientos de participantes representando miles de miembros, la asamblea del Sindicato de Inquilinos fue un éxito dirigida por voluntarios y financiada por sus propios miembr@s. Reafirmamos los ocho pilares que fortalezen a los locales de nuestro sindicato. Our city is rising up against a military siege. Fascism is in our streets in full force, and yet the working people of Los Angeles are fiercely defending our city, blocking deportations, and facing down federal agents for the fourth day in a row. Tenants, workers, students, and everyday people are doing anything and everything to protect immigrants in an outpouring of love, rage, and solidarity. We are grateful and inspired by those taking risks to resist the repression of migrants, trans people, tenants—housed and unhoused—and all facing fascist violence. As the entire world looks towards Los Angeles, this is a moment where the state’s crisis becomes the organized people’s opportunity.  The Democrats have betrayed and abandoned us. On Friday, dozens of members across our union joined us in court in support of Julio and Agnes and the Occidental Tenants Association who are beloved leaders of our local. We go to eviction court as a union to for many reasons. Among them is to bear witness to the crimes against humanity that judges, landlords and attorneys commit against the people of Los Angeles every day. Where evictions are seen as an individual or administrative issues in court - we bring in the masses and recognize it as a collective political issue. So many people go un represented to eviction court with no attorney or tenant union, single mothers, grandmothers. We come prepared ready to put up a fight in and outside of court! WE WON! 🎉 Congratulations to Lincoln Heights member Epifania for winning her 2nd Ellis Act eviction case in court today! Epifania, 86 years old, who has lived in her home for 50 years, received her first eviction notice in 2022 after her home was purchased by a Las Vegas based house flipper, Jim Bandy. She has fought and won 6 eviction cases! 😡Through her organizing with the union, the Comite Anti-Ellis and public support, she won that case and the multiple other eviction cases filed after that. Today, the court once again ruled in our favor and determined this Ellis act eviction unlawful! We will continue our pressure on @lahd to stop these repeat evictions against elders in our neighborhoods. La union hace la fuerza! When we fight! A solo DOS DÍAS de haber iniciado la campaña telefónica de Silvia, el equipo del dueño se contactó con el sindicato para encontrar una solución. Gracias a todos los que han tomado medidas para apoyar esta campaña.

Hoy vamos a TOMAR UNA PAUSA EN LA CAMPAÑA mientras facilitamos las negociaciones entre Silvia y su dueño. Nos reuniremos internamente con Silvia para asegurarnos de que SUS DESEOS Y NECESIDADES sean el centro de atención en estas negociaciones.

Esta campaña se ha hecho sin el respaldo de la ley ni de los políticos. De hecho, varios políticos ya han complicado esta campaña MÁS DE LO NECESARIO.

Los políticos quieren debilitar NUESTRO MOVIMIENTO y desviar la energía de la comunidad hacia sus propios deseos.

NUESTRO MOVIMIENTO SE CENTRA EN LAS NECESIDADES DE LOS INQUILINOS.

Solo podremos alcanzar nuestras metas si la gente común se organiza colectivamente contra los dueños.

— JUNE 30, 2026: Anakbayan LA celebrates yet another people’s victory with Migrante LA member Ate E against North Oak and slumlord Mark Nassab’s 4th eviction attempt! This comes after the historic largest Filipino political conference in the US convened by our organizations under BAYAN USA, Migrante USA, and Malaya USA. At the Kalayaan Summit, the Fight Back with Ate E campaign members learned about the various struggles for freedom of Filipinos, and how this single fight is connected to the struggles of all overseas Filipinos in the US. For example, we learned that the PH Consulate is trying to house Filipino athletes in HiFi for the LA2028. Meanwhile, our kababayan are suffering from displacement and landlord harassment. Shame! Tuloy ang laban! Our fight won’t end with this victory nor the victory of Ate E’s demands. Our fight will end when we can free all Filipino migrants from the housing crisis. On June 24th, two earthquakes struck Venezuela. The human impacts of brutal economic sanctions and the frozen assets held by the United States have made this natural disaster into something much worse. Hundreds have died, thousands are injured, and many more are missing. The death toll continues to rise as heavy machinery has been delayed in entering the country. Meanwhile people organized together at the neighborhood level in comunas, volunteers, and people in solidarity from across the country have mobilized to support recovery efforts. Union de Vecinos, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and the Los Angeles Tenant Union have a long history organizing and responding to crises. We stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people as their organized rapid response networks confront the challenges produced by these disastrous earthquakes and US manufactured crises. Our goal is to raise funds that will go directly to the Venezuelan people in the comunas, who are organized at a local level, empowering them to purchase what they need most for both short-term relief and long-term recovery. This support will help families locate loved ones, grieve losses, survive the upcoming weeks, and begin to rebuild their communities. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to comunas in Caracas and La Guaira.
